今日も雨、それも大雨。
午後になって夕刻まで半日
止んだが、今また大雨が続いて
いる。

今日もというのも、昨年も
6月29日は雨で作業を一日休んで
いるのだ。

今日は、ほぼ一日休んでから
夕刻、草だらけになったイモ畑
の草刈り。あと2-3週間で
収穫となる。美味しいイモが
できていたらいいな。

今週中から巨峰の
摘粒が始まる予定なのだが、
困ったことに巨峰の
房の粒が大きくなっていない
畑がある。全体的に小ぶりで
まだ、種無しなのかどうか判然と
しない房が多すぎる。

全くの想定外でどうなることやら。
ま、何とかなるでしょ。

It is rainy today again. A heavy rain.
It stopped rainning in the afternoon
till evening but it it is raining heavily
now.

It is rainy again because it was rainy today
last year. It was a resting day last year,too.

Today, I took rest almost whole day and mowed
grasses in the potate yard. Its harvest in 2-3
weeks time. Hope we can get tasty potatoes.

Berry thinning will be starting this week but
to my embarrassment the berries are not big
enough yet. Most of the buches have smaller berries
and I cannot tell if they are seeded or not.

It is the first experience and completely
out of expectation. I wonder how it will turn
out to be but it should be all right
at the end of the season.

沼目越瓜　Numame Shirouri (Indigenous vegetable melon)

これでヌマメシロウリと読むのだそうだ。
昔から沼目に伝わるシロウリはこう書くらしい。

おそらく須坂で唯一商業的に栽培している
であろうTさん(名前は非公表との事）
から教わった。先日栽培方法
の初歩を聞きにいった。
蕎麦を作っている会の人達と一緒に
今年から沼目越瓜を作ることになったのだ。

今日はその種まき。
八畝ほどの畑の半分ほどを沼目越瓜を
まき、残りに大豆数種類を枝豆用に
蒔いた。

マルチを施し、肥料や堆肥、
防虫の薬とともに蒔く。
あとは、うまく育つように祈り、
芽かき、除草、その他の世話をする。
うまく収穫できた暁には漬物にしたり
出荷したりする計画だが、
さてどうなりますか。

There is an idigenous vegetable melon in
Numame area in Suzaka. The chinese character used
for this melon is very different from ordinary one.

The other day, Ms. T who may be the only
one person growing the melon commercially
taught us. I went to ask her how to grow
the melon. This year, the soba group I
belong to is going to grow this
traditional vegetable.

We had seeding this morning. We made melon
yard in around 0.8a of
farm land which used to be a rice paddy.

We used mulching, spread fertilizer,
compost and some pesticide. We pray for
good growing and we have to take care of them
by buds tipping, mowing, etc.

We plan to make Japanese pickles with the
harvest and hope to sell some melons at
the market, too. We will see how the things
go on.

今日は28度くらいまで温度が
上がったようだ。

ワイン葡萄の畑は日陰がほとんど無いので
暑い日はつらい。休む場所がない！
誘引にお手伝いをお願いしてますが、
若い彼らも大変です。

梅雨はまだまだ明けないのでしょうが、
今日のように晴れた日は夏ですね。

カブトムシも大分出てきました。
まだまだ小さいものばかりです。
どういうわけか今年は
葡萄の樹にもとまっています。
えさが少ないのかな？

Today the temperature went up
to around 28 degree Celcius.

As there is little shadow in the
winegrape vineyards, it's a bit
tough to work in there. No space
for rest. I have young casual workers
for shoots training but they have
tough day today.

The rainy season will not end so soon
but when it shines it is a summer day.

Because of the high temperature recently,
I have already seen many beatles. They are
all small size yet. Strange to say,
this year they are often on the
vines which I did not see before.
I wonder if there is little food
for them?

昨日の暑さに比べて今日は
寒いくらいの涼しさ。

昨日に続いてワイン葡萄の
誘引をやっている。
葡萄の新梢の中にいると
草いきれならぬ葉っぱいきれ(?)
で、頭がくらくらしてくることが
ある。

葉っぱの匂いというか、植物が
エネルギーに満ち満ちて伸びている
せいか、そのエネルギーに
圧倒される。

ちょっと前まで、ほんの手折れる
ほどの新梢が、まさに繁茂している
のだ。

水木しげるの漫画にありそうな、
妖気。植物に捕らわれてしまうような、
そんな感じ。

…曇っていたので想像力が働きすぎました。

It was cold today or rather cold
compared with yesterday's weather.

I did tarining of winegrape vines.
Surrounded by the new shoots, I feel
like headache by the fumes of leaves.

I wonder if this is the smell of the
leaves? I can feel the space is full of
evergy of the plants.

Just a little while ago, the new shoots
looked so weak and fragile. But they
have grown thick and are now rampant.

It reminds me of the illustration by
Shigeyu Mizuki where a man was trapped
by the plants.

All these imagination hit my head as it was
cloudy today!

今日お邪魔したよそ様の
畑の中にカシスの小さい樹が
何本かあって、取り残しの実が
ついていました。

熟したのは外は真っ黒で
癖の無い味。酸味があるので
ブルーベリーの方がおいしいと
感ずるかも。ポリフェノールは
たっぷりです。

クレーム・ド・カシスといって
これからつくったリキュールが
あります。白ワインで割ると
キールといい、シャンパンで割ると
キール・ロワイヤルとなります。

今日の巨峰の畑の様子。
大分粒が大きくなってきて
います。単為結果といって、種無し
になっているか、流れたといって
バラ房傾向か、まだ判然とは
しません。

I visited a somebody's farm yard
today and found some cassis trees with
cassis berries left on them.

The ripe fruit is very black in
color and tasetes like a bit
mulberry but is sourer. Blue beryy
may taste better as it is not sour.
But cassis contains a lot of poliphenols.

Creme de cassis is the French liquer
made by cassis. When mixed with white wine
it is called Kir, and when mixed with
champagne, it is called Kir Royale.

Today's Kyoho vineyard.
The berries and buches are getting
bigger but it is too early to
judge if the berries are with seeds or
not and if the bunches are compact
or loose.
