A 200-year long Japanese sake brewery
in Yamanouchi which makes beer, too.
They use their home grown Japanes
sake rice and hopsfor their beer.
Rice for beer ? They say it contributes
to higher alchool
and tender sweet aroma in beer.
The rice is the rice poweder
that is removed in the process of
polishing rice grains.
At the shop, you can taste their
Japanese sake and beer.
The tradition, new challenges and
their poicy to use locally grown
ingredients. They must be the keys
to their continuous success.
I have so many things I cannot
determine right away and they
are causes of my troubles. Life is
full of such undetermined things.
No, they are not so serious issues
or rather small things but they
just trouble me. These things are
not stand alone issues but the
would-be results will also
bother me that is why.
And they are such issues as I don't
have to decide right away or nothing
apparantly effect on my every day life.
If an issue does not have a choice, I won't
be bothered because I've got to do it.
That is the only way.
That reminds me of a scene in the office
in my previous business. We had a financing
agreement that to be closed on certain date.
But our negotiation pace was far behind the
schedule and nobody was sure if we would be
able to close in on the deadline.
One day our American boss asked us why we should
do it by that deadline. We did not know how to
answer. He told us,'You've got to do it because
it's got to be done.'
That's all. Very simple reason but it sounded
like a zen question.
Finally the financing agreement closed in the
late eveing of the deadline date.

I used to ride subways for
daily transportation and
often drove a car in Tokyo
so I was accustomed to the
traffic overthere.
However, many new buildings like
Roppongi Hills and Tokyo Midtown
were built and dramatic changes
were made in Marunouchi area, etc.
This time I found doors in the
subway platforms, new subway lines
like Fukutoshin Line, Toneri Liners,
were in operation. Odakyu train runs
through Chiba and so on. I was really
impressed with the recent changes in Tokyo
even though I visited there last year.
The pace of changes is so fast.
Regardless of recent economy downturn,
I feel huge enegy tides. No wonder so many
people and so much money are absorbed in there.
It makes me feel that Japan is still
all right with such a lively and energertic town
which might be a superficial way of viewing, though.
On the way back to Nagano
by highway bus the other day,
I saw our bus driver checked
the passenger with counter
after a short break at a Service
Area. Then he started the bus.
There were a few cars in front
of our bus and our bus started
very slowly. Suddenly at around
the gas station near the end zone
of the SA, the bus stopped and the
driver seemed to talk to someone
outside the bus. He said it was
going to Nagano. There was answer
that someone wanted to go Nagano.
I could not catch whole conversation
but a young man stepped into the bus.
I felt funny because some one could
get in the bus at such a place. Then
I heard the bus driver apologize to
the young man. He seemed to be left
behind and to try to catch up with the
bus. He said nothing but throw himself
into his seat breathing very hard.
The bus dirver walked through the isle
with his counter, apologized to him
again and restarted the bus. I was
surprised to see such a thing actually
had happened.
The driver should have followed the
procedure stipulated in the manual but
still this kind of thing have happened.
He did not check the number on the counter
and the number on his list. Or either number
should have been wrong.
Any how it was lucky that the young man
was not left behind. Who can blame the one
that might not have come back by the time?
I had an appointment with someone
in Shioziri today but I mistook
it tomorrow and did not go there.
I made that appointment around two
weeks ago and wrote down that schedule
on tomorrow's date in my calender.
I noticed today's appointment at
lunch time when I had checked
the e-mail messagaes to
reconfirm tomorrow's appointment.
As we did not know each other's
mobile phone number, we could not
communicate until I noticed it.
I had them worried if I had had an
accident on the way.
Ooooooops ! Such thing can happen !
