最近ふさぎがちなオジサンを
テレマークスキー愛好家の方々
が雪山散歩に誘ってくれました。

もとよりスノーギアなど持たない
私は冬用農作業着姿で参戦です。

テレマークスキーを借り、
峰の原を出発して奥ダボスのスキー場
を登り、パウダースノーの山麓へ。
冬山歩きは猪苗代でのクロカン以来
20数年ぶり2度目です。

根子岳の山麓は快晴で、雪の白に
樹木の僅かな碧が清冽です。
目の前にはトレースもなく、
解放感に満たされます。

標高1700メートル程まで、無理せず
上って下りてきました。

To cheer up a recently low-spirited middle aged winemaker,
friends telemark skiers invited him to take a walk with ski
in the winter mountains.

I joined them with my vineyard work gears and rented ski gears.

We started from Minenohara, walked up along the Oku Davos ski slopes into the powder snowed Neko-dake mountains. It was first experience in the last twenty something years since last one in Inawashiro area by cross country ski.

In the moutnain, it was clear and very fine with shining snows all around us. Scattered greens with half-covered snow without ski trace in front are really fresh and cleaned up my soul.

須坂市は田園都市を標榜しています。
また「緑と水の街に」とか、
「須坂の水は美味しい！（事実です）」
と、盛り上げかけている割には、
その水源地でもあるこの根子岳
山麓に高さ100mに及ぶ風力発電
設備を16基建設することに明確な
姿勢を示していません。
その設備を作るためには、この山麓
を削り大規模な工事をしなければ
ならないのです。節約される（？）化石燃料
と破壊される環境と景観。

我々は、「我々の子孫から借りている
だけに過ぎないこの土地」を、どういう形
で子孫に返そうとしているのか。などとも
考えてしまう雪山行でした。

Suzaka city calls itself a rural garden city and recently there are movements to make the city renowned for its beautiful green and tasty water. However, it does not stand out against the construction of wind power generation facilities along the Neko-dake slopes. Sixteen power generator are planned to be built with each of around 100m windmil at the site where the water originally starts running to the city. The mountain environment needs to be curved and destroyed for the construction. Should we compare the saved fossile fuels with the destruction of the nature and landscape which we may not be able to put back to the current shape ?

What kind of land are we going to return to our descendants after we have borrowed and used it from them? This came up to my mind while I was in such a beautiful mountain, too.

がブログに飛ぶようにしました。
これから少しずつ変えてゆくつもりです。

さて、今日委託醸造中のワインの様子を
見てきました。今日チェックしたのは、

白はソービニオン・ブラン、ヴィオニエ、シャルドネで、
赤は、メルロー、カベルネ、シラーズです。

皆順調そうでした。白は清澄作業をしてから瓶詰めです。
まずソービニオン・ブランにヴィオニエで、
シャルドネは様子を見ながら3月くらいに瓶詰めを
考えています。

赤は、1年は樽の中で熟成が必要です。
でも、既に香りが良く期待できます。
ワインは熟成中何度もがっかりと期待を繰り返して
品質と風味が向上してゆきます。
1ヶ月前は、ちょっと落胆、今日は期待大、
なかなか気をもませます。

ところで、先日私のブログを見てチュースケの
絵葉書をご注文された方がいたそうです。

I changed the structure of my homepage so that blog page comes up when the readers search for kusunoki winery. Other changes are in progress.

I went to a winery where my wines are being made. They are in the maturing stage either in barrels or in other containers.

I tasted white wines such as sauvignon blanc, viognier, and chardonnay. Reds were merlot, cabernets, and shiraz. They seemed all right at the moment. After clarification, sauvignon blanc and viognier are planned to be bottled first. Chardonnay is planed in March depending on the wine condition.

Reds need to be matured longer at least one year. They start showing the potential higher quality wines and it makes me excited very much.
Generally, during the maturation, wines sometimes show the promise of the high quality but in some ohter times they seem very blank and cause disapointment. So we should not be panic at any time.

By the way, I hear that one of the readers of my blog ordered the 'Chu-suke' postcards the other day. Thak you very much.
You will like them as I do. I can feel the passion of the photographer to the cute squirrel.

年末年始に雪が降った他は
暖かい日が続いていて、葡萄畑の
剪定も順調でした。

この連休で、今冬2度目の冬らしい雪。
その上寒くなり、家の水道も凍りました。
一昨年みたいな凍害にならなければ
いいのですが…。一応、少しは
凍害防止帯を巻いてはあるのですが。

去年も大分虫に葡萄の樹がやられました。
ブドウスカシバやブドウトラカミキリ
という蛾の幼虫が、細い樹も太い幹や
枝にも入ってしまい、枯らしてしまうのです。

下の写真は、虫にやられた巨峰の枝です。
枝の真ん中が喰い荒らされています。
左から2番目に食い入れ穴が見えます。
一番左の枝の断面に犯人の虫がいるのが
見えますか？

Because of the warm weather this winter,
pruning is going on very smoothly. We had
2nd wintery snow falls last weekend with freezing
coldness. I am afraid it would cause cold injury
to the vines.

Kyoho big vines and their branches as well as winegrapes vines were attacked by moss larvae again. It drives me crazy!
I cannot get grapes from the damaged vines.
Can you see the big wholes in these big Kyoho branches ? A larva is also seen on the far left trunk.

久しぶりにキーちゃんのカフェで、
峰の原のHさん・Mさんとお話。

I had a chit-chat with H-san and M-san from Minenohara-kogen at Tito cafe for the first time in one month about recent drastic decrease of ski pupulation, how to sell my wines, etc.

スキー人口が激減しているとか、
どうやってワインを紹介しようか
とか等々…。

キーちゃんの淹れてくれたカプチューノです。

the animal of the year.

庭先に来るリスのチュースケです。

Five photos of squirrel below are taken by M-san.
He called him "Chu-suke" or a squeak.

このほど絵葉書になりました。
Now he made a debut by postcards.

お客さんとは「峰の原の
リスは他のリスより愛嬌があってかわいい」
と、盛り上がっているそうです。
M-san, H-san and their guests think Chu-suke is cuter and lovelier than those in other areas.

他のペンションでも、皆さん庭先に
来るリスにそれぞれ名前をつけているそうな。
Other pension owners call their 'own' squirrels by their own.

今日初詣に善光寺に行って来ました。
結構な人出でした。
３が日って込んでるからな～
と思って空いた頃を見計らっていったんですが、
やはり２年参りや３が日に行くのとは気合の
入り方が違って。こういう季節の
行事はってのは、やはりやり時・行き時があるな～
と感じた次第です。

I went to pray at Zenkoji temple in Nagano today.
I had decided to go today because there should be very croweded
first three days of the new year.

However, I was actually not so much encouraged to go today after the heat of the new year. It made me noticed that anything should have its own timing to do so especially in case of such kind of festival or seasonal event.

ところで、善光寺の名前の由来というのは、
何でも『よしみつ』さんという人の名前だそうですね。
その方が何をしたのかは忘れてしまいましたが。

By the way, did you know that the name of Zenkoji is after a man named Yoshimitsu which is another way of reading the chinese characters of Zenko (ji means temple). I forget what he had done.

全く話は変わりますが、今日知人の訃報に接しました。
そのことについては、また別の機会に。

Today I heard that one of my acquaintance had passed away last night. I would mention it at next occasion.
