昨夜の雪はふわふわの軽い雪でした。
春の雪ではなくて真冬の雪です。

今日は晴天。日差しが強く、畑仕事のせいで
顔は真っ黒に日焼けです。「スキーにでも
行ってきたの？」などと聞かれます。

終日剪定ですが、
午後5時過ぎから蕎麦つくりの仲間が集まって
急遽そば打ちの練習です。山ノ内の蕎麦グループ
の方が、14年前は素人だったという話を聞いて、
やはりもっとうまくなりたいと、
時々練習することにしました。

つなぎの小麦粉を入れるタイミングを間違えたり
打ち粉を少なくして蕎麦が破れたりと失敗連続です。
茹で上げればぶつぶつに切れているしと。
それでも、自家栽培のそばは美味しい！

さて、最近の藻谷浩介さんの講演以降、
街づくりについて考える機会が増えました。
そういえば、今日のクローズアップ現代
に藻谷さん出ていましたね。

お得意の人口論の切り口ではなく、
本当にいいものが日本には沢山あって、
それを海外の富裕層が認めて高くても
買っている、高品質なものを作って
それを正当な価格で売ることが生産者には
これから必要なことだ。如何に高く
売るかを考えねばならない
という内容でした。

それに、海外富裕層を受け入れる工夫は
必要だが、日本の（地方の）普段のものが
（食事・文化）が魅力的なのであって、
そこを認識違いしてはいけない
的なことも扱ってましたね。

実は農家はいつもそういうことを
考えてはいるのです。
だって、市場やスーパーしか
見ていない農協に出していたら
高く売れないんですから。
いくら品質がいいものを作っても
そのうちやる気なくしますよね。
疑問を持った人達は
自分で売ってます。
でも、全て高く売れているかというと
必ずしもそういうわけではない。
富裕層に届く仕組みが必要ですね。

さて、まちづくりですが、
最近川村健一さん他の書かれた
「サステイナブル　コミュニティ」
という本を読んでいます。
アメリカの例なんですが、しばらく前から
どうも今のアメリカの街（都市）のありようはおかしいな
と感じ始めた人達がいて、以前のコミュニティの復活、
自動車への過度の依存からの脱却、
資源の無駄使いのコントロール等をテーマ
に新たな街づくりを試行しているという、
その背景と考え方、及び
実際を紹介しているものです。

読み進むうちに、藻谷さんの
「まちなか」の復活・中心市街地再開発
に非常に似た考え方だと感じてます。
（アメリカの場合、再開発よりそういう
新しい街を作ってしまえるところがすごい
んですが。）

歩いていける範囲（もしくは公共交通機関で）に
病院や役所等公共機関と、職場、住居が適当に
あって、しかもコミュニティのアイデンティティが
ある…等々。

しばらく前にテレビでみた富山市の姿がうかびます。
ここは、「このままで行ったら30年後はどうなるんだ。
80歳になった我々が不自由なく暮らしてゆくには
街はどうあるべきなんだ」という危機感から、
中心市街地に機能を集中させてしかも市電で
移動できるようにその整備も行っているという
ことが紹介されていたような…。

「30年後の姿」を考えていたら、50年後の農業の姿
を話題にしている方がいまして、やはり農業の
時間間隔は長いと感じたりしたものです。

そういうことで、わが須坂は30年後、50年後のどういう姿
に向かっているのかと、畑の中で考えていたりします。

The powdery snow yesterday changed the scenery.
The mounains were covered with beautiful white snow.
Japana Alpes are clearly seen from the vineyard.

We excercised buckwheat noodle making late afternoon.
Encouraged by the growers group in Yamanouchi area,
we wanted to be better at making good soba. We are just
the beginners but the soba made by our own grown buchwheat
always taste good.

Recently I have often think of local town making
after the symposium with Mr. Kosuke Motani.
Speaking of him, he was on the TV programme
"Close up Today" broadcasted by NHK. Unlike his
population based analysis, the programme was about the
Asian rich (1.2 million with more than 100 million yen
financial assets). He did not have much time to talk and
mentioned only that the Japanes producers are encourage to
make high quality goods and should sell at reasonably high
price to whom appreciate the value for the quality.
People now has to think how to put higher price tag instead
of low price war.

I think farmers are always concerned to sell their produce at
higher price and are trying to do so. They cannot depend on the
co-operation or market people as they usually deal with the
big buyer like supermarket. The have not put so much effort
to fetch higher price for the farmers. Now we need a structure
to reach Asian rich to sell our produce at better price.

Back on the issue of town making, I am reading a book called
"Susutainalbe Community" written by Mr. Kenichi Kawamura and
Mr. Hiroyuki Komon. It is about the new movement in USA to make
sustainable communty instead of edge cities or sprawled cities where
most of the scenearies are same eleswhere and where there lack
the real community. As such, the book introduced the past development of the cities, the problems that such cities have faced,
the possible answers to them and a few examples of the recent trial.

I feel the proximity of the two, namely Mr. Motani's idea on revival of center district in cities and the concept of the sustainable community. Many functions of a community should be in a relatively small area, connected by public tranport system,the residence and work place are in close distance, and so on....

These ideas remind me of Toyama city where the town making is based on what the city should be for the citizens 30 years later. Can we make our life easy when we are 80 years old? Will our city OK for us after 30 years later? These are the start of their town making. Now they have tram routes expanding in the city and the city is going to be very compact.

When I was thinking of our town 30 years later, a farmer was talking about 50 years later. Farmer's time scale is always longer than other people. I tend to think to myself what my hometown would be 30 years or 50 years later in my vineyards.

春の気配と冬への逆戻りが交錯してます。

昨日大分溶けた雪が朝は氷ついて
歩くたびにバリバリと音を立てます。

今日は一日中冬の寒さで、周りの畑にも
剪定している人の数はまばらです。

夕方から雪が結構降り始めて、北信地方には
大雪注意報が出ているようです。

おかげで剪定も大遅れです。

そんななか、"魅力ある直売所を目指して"
と題して、伊那市の「産直市場グリーンファーム」
代表の小林さんの講演がありました。

行ってびっくり、まばらな参加者？と思って
会場に入るや、50人以上はいるではありませんか。
みんな農家のおば（あ）ちゃんやおじ（い）ちゃん達です。

須坂市にはたいした直売所は無いのですが、皆さん
スーパーの直販コーナーなどへおろしたりりんごの直売をやっている
方々の様です。

何とかもっと売れるようになるようにと、話を聞きに
来たのでしょうか。

小林さんの話は刺激的でした。
専門家に言わせると、お客さんの集まらない
場所で、お客さんの集まらない店作りをして
現在年商5億円、登録生産者1600人！、スタッフ40人
だそうです。

で、なぜか？　という企業秘密を明かしてくれたのです。
最初は「余り物」販売や「年寄りの生きがいのため」という
生産者側の都合で始めても、日本の農業をどう守るのか、
地域の農業をどうするのか、という直売所の「位置づけ」
がないと発展しないというお話がありました。また、
直売所なんだから午後は野菜がありません等の、
自分たちの都合の押し付けではダメです。

また、出すものがない（冬場など特に）ときでも、
「商品化」によって、例えば農家の保存食材（地域特性が
あるし、スーパーでは売っていない）はあるだろうし、
農産物でなくても、食べ物でなくても商品化できる。
いよいよ何もなくなったら顔を出すようにしている、
との事です。

その他、お客さんがついつい参加して（他所で宣伝
してくれたり、知りあいを連れてきて商品の説明を
して）しまったり、お客さんがついつい世話をやいて
しまう「未完の魅力」、や、感動の共鳴といった話が
でました。

納得したり、感動したり、やる気が出たりと、
この講演会は、先日の藻谷浩介氏の講演に
劣らない質の高いものだと
思いました。

Spring and Winter are coming here
every other day.

Frozen melted snow makes crispy sound in
the chilled morning after a Spring like
weather yesterday. Fewer peopler can be seen
around the Kyoho vineyard where I am pruning.

It started snowing late afternoon and the
weather forecast announced heavy snow fall
in northern part of Nagano. Pruning is postponed
again!

On such a snowy day, there was a lecture
delivered by Mr. Kobayashi, head of a
farmer's shop in Ina area.

I expected very small number of audiences but
to the contrary and to my surprise
there was already more than 50
old(er) farmers.

Mr. Hayashi started a shop 14years ago
in a so-called impossible location
with impossible shop arrangement by
the professional retailers. However, the yearly sales
of the shop is　500 million yen with 1,600 registered
farmers who bring their produce and with 40 staffs now.

He disclosed why it was possible. His talks were
very suggestive and the audiences were really imporessed.

Even though a shop starts with the farmers' leftovers and
for giving older people opportunity to be appreciated,
a shop cannot develop without higher ambition or
motivation. Don't impose farmers' convenience on
the customers but take care of what is needed.

Even in winter when there is fewer green veges, anything
can be a merchandise. So merchandization is very important.
No need to sell only raw matrials but we have dried or
preserved stuff, non food stuff, or on can even sell his/her
face!

He also mentions about the beauty of imcompleteness.
The shop does not need to be perfect, even customers
can share to make the shop livey and interesting by
chatting good about the shop or taking their friends
in by explaining how they are enthusiastic about
the shop, etc.

By his talk, we were moved, enrouraged and made
a bit aggresive. I believe the quality is very high
and among all, I was made to believe that there would
be a forward move to start a small shop of local
produce by ourselves.

今日は小布施の山岸さんに
巨峰棚の修正具を作って頂きました。

山岸さんはりんごとぶどう農家ですが
何でも手作りしてしまうすごい人です。

お宅の倉庫には、カッター、旋盤、ドリル、
溶接機及び数え切れないほどの道具や
材料があります。

かつては、コンクリート製のぶどう棚の支柱も
作っていたそうです。

で、今回は私の借りている巨峰畑の棚を上げる
道具を手作りして頂きました。

針金を縦横に這わせたぶどう棚は、
樹の重みやら、葡萄の重みやらで
だんだんと下がってきて、腰をかがめないと
畑に入れなくなってしまい、作業効率が
著しく下がります。そこで、棚をあげる
ために、幹線や小播線という針金をピンと
締め直すのですが、これだと幹線を張ると
小播線が全て緩んだり、また直ぐに下がって
きたりしてしまいます。

棚が下がってくるのは、長い時間の中で
周縁部に設置した支柱の角度がゆるくなる
のが原因ですので、その支柱を
正しい位置に埋めなおす必要があるのです。

で、この道具ですが。
やや径の小さい鉄柱が一方の鉄柱に入っていて、
ガイドに沿って上下に動きます（青線）。
左下を地面に固定して、赤い線で示した
ガイドの幅を狭めてやると（シメラーという
道具を使います）、右上のさすまたの部分が
上方に押し出されます。

足が地面に固定されているので押し出されるわけです。
で、このさすまたの方の鉄柱に支柱を固定しておくと
支柱が浮き上がるので、その隙に穴を掘ったり受けを
入れたりして支柱の位置を修正してやるわけです。

私も使うのが始めてですが、雪が溶けたら
剪定枝の誘引の前にトライしてみるつもりです。

棚の下を悠々と歩ける…そんな畑に
したいものです。

Today Yamagishi san in Obuse made for me
an instrument to raise the overhead trellis.
He is a grape and apple grower but genious in making
many things by himsel. He has jigs, cutters, drills,
welders, and many many thing. He makes almost
anything which a farmer needs.
One time, many farmers around
him got concrete poles for their vineyards and are
still seen.

Overhead trellis made by wires tend to be loose
due to the weight of the vines and also to the
weight of bunches. It's hard to walk around under the loose
trellis. So we need to raise the trellis by way of
re-positioning the peripheral poles but not by tensioning the
wires.

This is the instrument to re-position the peripheral poles.
In the picture, one smaller pole can move up and down in the
bigger diameter pole. When the base is fixed on the ground,
and tow guides are pulled by a special instrument, one end
of the pole will move upwards. If the trellis pole is fixed
to this pole, the trellis pole will move up and leave from
the ground. Then I can re-position the trellis pole to the
desired position, namely the pole gets more vertical than
before this procedure and raise the trellis at the end.

I will try to raise the trellis once the snow melts away and
before the training of the pruned canes early in Spring.

昨日春の象徴みたいな
オオイヌノフグリを紹介しましたが、
今日は大雪でした。多分この冬
一番の積雪でしょう。
春の雪で重く湿った
雪でしたが、22~3センチは積もったようです。
太陽が出て溶け始めたかと思うと地吹雪のように
強風と雪になったりと…。須坂でこれですから
きっと中野市や飯山市の方は大変だったでしょう。

まるで、雪の正月3が日の様に街中は静かでした。
今の時期日差しがあれば直ぐに溶けてしまうので
しょうが、一日中降り続いているので夜になり
温度が下がって、きっと明日の朝はカチカチですね。
予想も氷点下7度くらいと寒そうです。これで
剪定は1－2日お休みですね。ちょっと遅れぎみ
なので、すこしあせります。

Contrary to the yesterday's comment about
the spring flower, we had most snow this
winter today. It was wet and heavy Spring
snow falls. For this time, the sun usually melts
away the Spring snow but the weather was
bad and sometime we had brizard like snow with
very strong wind.

It was very quite this morning as if it had been
a quite snowy New Year's day. The temperature is
expected to be around 7 degree below zero tomorrow
morning so all the streets will be frozen.
I have to put off pruning for a few days and it
makes me nervous a bit for alreday delayed
pruning schedule.

今朝(2/23)はよく晴れていたのが
10時半頃から雨、そして雪に。
北信州には大雪注意報が出ていました。
東京では春一番が吹いたそうな。

昨日は、朝は冷え込みましたが昼間は
良い天気で、春のような日差しでした。
もう2月も末ですから。

畑で見つけたオオイヌノフグリです。
朝方は氷ついていた、花びらと葉っぱも
日差しの中で次第に生気に満ちてきます。

春は直ぐそこ、葡萄の樹は3月半ばくらいには
水を吸い上げ始めると言われています。

Just as the weather forecast said, it was
fine this morning but it turned to be rainy
and finally snowy by noon time. Heavy snow fall
was cautioned by the local weather stataion in
the northern part of Nagano. I heard the strong
wind blowed in Tokyo which is thought to be the
symbol of Spring.

In our area, we can feel Spring everyday,too.
It was cold yesterday
but the sun shined like Spring time during
the day time. The small flowers were also seen in the
vineyard eventhough they had been frozen and the leaves were icy
in the morning.

Spring is just around the corner and we are already in the
end of February. In two weeks time, the vines are said
to begin to suck water.
