In the middle of the busiest time of the year,
a friend of mine visited me asking me to
find a small inn with IRORI and to collect
related data.
It was easy not to accept his request but
as he was to start a busines accosiated with
agriculture and rural society
revitalization business, I spent half a day to
exchange ideas. I wanted to clarify what
he really wants to do.
Then I booked IPPU inn in Yamanouchi as usual.
Sato-san of IPPU seemed to be interested in his
plan but he seemed a bit puzzled, too.
The root of his idea which is shared with me
is on the fact that Japan is a rare beautiful
country with culture of deep history and tasty
cuisines. It is like a treasure box.
What is more, however, most
of the Japanese people do not recognize it and
the destruction of such beauty is taking place
everywhere. Such sense of worrying is also shared
between us.
His plan, a revitalization of agriculture
and rural community, may be welcome with
applause by local governments which I feel
a bit encumberanced as a farmer living in
nature. But his energy and vision to create the
structure and the determination to put it in
action is seldom seen among the farmers
and/or government peoople even though they
are suffering from the demise of rural
industry.
After the vineyard work early in the
morning, I went to St. Cousair winery
for the bottling of Chardonnay 2007.
It was a heart breaking wine due to the
unexpected change during the wine making.
It has come all the way to the bottling.
I wonder how it will develop during the
maturation in bottle. I want to keep it at
least for half a year though it will be
released earlier.
As the vines get matured, the harvest and
wine making this year is very much expected.
Today I tasted other red wines of mine. They
seem very good. I look forward to releasing
red wine 2007 very much.
Today's weather forecast
isn't reliable even for today.
In the morning, it expected rain
in the evening and it was changed to
cloudy for whole day. However, at aroun
8am it started rain. Poor farmers who
sprayed early in the morning today
based on the forecasted weather.
I had a break for a while and it cleared
up soon. Then at around 2pm it rained and we
had a break just for a second. Again it rained
at around 4:30pm and it rained reasonably
heavily to made me decide to call for the day.
We have to have rain wear.
Haruna-chan, a snow boarder who helped me
last year, came with two friends today so
I was able to catch up with the schedule
for today. But in rainy season, you cannot
be ahead of schedule because it rains at
any time to suspend operation unexpectedly.
I have to mow, spray and and get out
of the vineyard for other obligations, too.
I was happy today as two of the helpers brought
their own tea cup. This year I try not to use
so many paper cups and PET bottles. I bought
a thermos bottle to bring hot water to the
vineyards.

I spend one day like this. How short
one day lasts ! Vineyard operation
always keeps me standing up and walking.
No wonder I get crampled in the leg in
the middle of night. At such a time
I make it a rule to drink apple vinegar!
Today a pair of ducks came to
the rice paddy in front of
one of my Kyoho vineyards.
They put their head in the water
for food and for long time.
I waited for a while to take
a good photo but they were
able to stand with no breath
for a long time. I gave up
taking a nice photo.
Next photo shows Yonaga direction
from the vineyard.

It rained in the morning. I wrote the
other day the rainy season was in in
Kanto area. However here in Nagano, it
was in, too. I was a bit out of time.
The weather forecast says it will rain
again on Thursday onward. This time,
I have to ask helpers to work in the
rain, otherwise bunch forming will never
be accomplished.
May be because of my yesterday's awkward comment,
Fukuhiro-san of Fuku-chan farm called me
and offered his and his wife's hands in the
afternoon.
I know that they are busy at this time, too.
They have bunch forming, fruit thinning of
peach and leaf pluckering for cherry.
I was very delighted at their offer.
Thank you very much. As they are
professional grapegrowers, they have
very efficient hands. And they helped me
in the kyoho vineyard until it gets
dark. So kind of them! Thank you again.
This morning I worked in the
vineyard and attended the Nagano Purple field meeting,
a new table grape variety recommended in Nagano.
Then I went back home to change the wet tarining wear
and again to the vineyard.
This time of year, you can find many cars
parking by the vineyard roadside which is a
seasonal scenary around here.
