ワイナリーの庭にある木に白い花が
咲きました。友人たちがワイナリー開業の
お祝いに送ってくれたものです。
そのうち大きな木陰を作ってくれそうです。

The tree in the winery garden
has its pretty white flowers.
My friends gave it for the opening
of the winery. It will extend its branches
and give us big shadow against hot summer
sun light.

いよいよぶどうの房切りの予定が入ってきて
畑仕事が忙しくなってきました。
とはいえ、ワイナリーでの作業もめじろ押し
です。

ようやくワイナリーらしくなってきました。

The vineyard operation is getting busy and
I have to plan the bunch forming of table grapes.
Meanwhile there still lots of things to be settled
at the winery, too.

With these barrels, it looks like a winery!

灌水が始まりました。
最近雨が少ないのです。

この水、どこから来てると思いますか？
千曲川近辺からポンプアップされているんです。

日滝原はほぼ全域に灌水が通っています。
これはりんごの成長に欠かせないのです。
受粉後果実の細胞分裂のとき、その細胞が
水を吸う時期に十分な水がないと果実は
大きくなれないのです。ワイン用のぶどうは
粒が小さいほどいいのですけど。

こんなところからも日滝原は昔から
りんごの大産地だったことが分かります。

The irrigation has just begun. We have very little
rain recently.

Do you know where the water comes from ?
It is pumped up all the way from the Chikumagawa River area.

Most of Hitakihara area is covered by the irrigation system.
Because the water is very crucial for the growth of apple fruit.
Cell division of apple fruit after pollination needs water and
each apple cell needs water to grow big. On the other hand, wine
grapes do not need so much water as smaller berry is better for
the wine quality.

From such fact, you can tell the Hitakihara area has been an
Important apple growing area.

15日、WINE TOKYO 2014　に参加します。
今回もってゆくのは、これからリリースする
ワイン。　シャルドネ2012樽熟成、日滝原2013、
メルロー2種、ブレンド赤2種、ピノノワール。
そうそう、スパークリングも初お披露目です。

須坂も今日はだいぶ暖かくなり明日は30度近く
なるとか。今年は虫も多いようです。

発芽

I will be participating in the WINE TOKYO 2014
held at TRC in Tokyo on May 15.

I will bring newly releasing wine such as
Chardonnay 2014 Barrel Aged, Hitakihara 2013,
Two kinds of Merlot, two kinds of red blend,
And Pinot Noir.　Sparkling wine will be
Introduced,too.

It gets warm today in Suzaka and the weather forecast
says it will be almost 30℃ tomorrow. Many bugs are reported
to be seen this Spring. Hope they will not eat up the buds and
leaves.

連休の前半は暑いくらいの日がありました。
以前、鼻水を流しながら開墾していたのも
同じ5月連休中だったのに、と思い出して
いたら案の定寒くなりました。

それでも、ぶどうの芽も出始めて、りんごの
花も満開です。そろそろ草刈も始まります。

The first part of Golden Week, consecutive holiday
week in May in Japan, we had warm weather like summer.
I remembered the same week a few years ago when the
weather was cold and that I was developing vineyards
on a backhoe with dripping nose.

Then it turned out to be cold enough now. Even so, the grape
started budding and the apple flowers are in full bloom.
I have to start mowing weeds soon.
