今日ある「楽しくてためになる講演会」
に行った。野鳥に関する講演会だったのだが、
目からウロコの講演会だった。
昨日は野鳥の観察会をやったらしい。

その看板に偽りなし。
大ホールでやっても聴衆大満足の
内容だろうなと、素人ながらに思った。
素人にとっては、ホントある道のプロの
話は面白い。

その中で印象深かったのが雉とオナガの
話。今年は私もこのブログでも紹介したが、
巨峰やワイン葡萄の畑でよく雉を見かけた。
雉が増えているのか、はたまた環境悪化で
他では生きられないので仕方なく畑に
出没しているのか、という疑問があったので、
5年前と比べて今年は雉の出没が多いのはなぜかと
質問したのだ。

答えは明快であった。放鳥しているせいだという。
雉は日本の国鳥だが、日本は世界で唯一狩猟鳥、
つまり狩猟によって殺す対象の鳥を国鳥としている
不思議の国なのだそうだ。で、猟銃の所有者は
税金というか登録金を払っているのだが、その
お金で雉は毎年放鳥されているのだそうだ。
なるほど、で人家近くの畑では猟銃を撃つ機会が
減ったので雉を良く見かけるようになったのか！
確かに日滝原の畑の中には「農作業の人が
いるので注意して猟をしましょう」みたいな看板を
見かけたような。撃つために離している訳ね、魚の
放流みたいなものか。

ではあっても、雉が無事に育つ環境があるという事は
無いことよりも喜ばしいことには違いない。千曲市の
方から来た人は、千曲川河川敷では今年雉を余り見かけ
無かったと言っていた。撃たれてしまったのだろうか。

オナガの話はまた、別の機会にでもしよう。

I went to a lecture entitled "A fun and
interesting lecture about birds" today.
It was indeed a fun and interesting one.
There was a birdwatching yesterday.

The lecture deserves the title. It was a pity
that it should not had been held at a big hall
with hundreds of audiences. To an outsider
like me, such a lecture
delivered by professionals are always fun.

What was most impressive topics were
about the pheasant and the long tail.
As introduced in my blog this year, I sighted
pheasants many times in my Kyoho and winegrape
vineyards. I wondered if it was because of the
increase of number of the birds or of the
deterioraion of the environment which forced
the birds to live in/around vineyards. Therefore
I posed an question why there were more pheasants
than five year before.

The answere was short and clear. It must be
due to the release of the birds! The pheasant
is the national bird of Japan. Japan, a mysterious
country, is the only country that has the shooting
bird as the symbol of the country. Actually the pheasant
is the bird which is the target of shooting. As the
shooting gun holders pay certain tax every year which
is used as the fund to release the pheasants fo shooting.
Despite of the relases of the birds, the people do not
shoot birds near the residential area and the birds can be
found in the vineyards near residential area!
It reminds me a warning board in Hitakihara faming
area saying that the hunters should pay much attention
to the farmers around here. The birds have been released
just like the fishes released in the rivers and ponds for
hunting or fishing.

Even so, the good part of the fact is that the environment
can still sustain the pheasant around us. The audience from
Chikuma city told us that she had not seen as many pheasant
as before around the Chikuma river levy this year.

I will talk about the long tail bird next opportunity.

畑といっても、瓜をつくった
畑にたまねぎの苗を植えた。
マルチを敷いて1列半ほどだが、
これでも800本ほど植えたのだ。

左側の向こう側半分には
来週にんにくを植える予定。

この後、畑で豆を抜き
乾かしておいた蕎麦に
とおみをかけた。

葡萄の収穫やりんごの葉摘みが
終わったり、今後の家の畑仕事
にも大分目途がついてきたせいか、
時間に追われていた今までの
空気が大分落ち着きを
まして来て、穏やかな雰囲気
の中での作業となった。
研究もかねて皆で蕎麦を食べにゆく
算段などもできて、平穏な秋の
夕方であった。

melons. It looks just a bit
but we planted 800 baby onions
in just one and a half of
of the mulched row.

The half of the mulched row in the
left side is empty and we will be
planting garlic next week.

Then we pulled some of bean plant
for bean drying and had the buckwheat
grains gone through the manual
separator. Because of the wind made
by the fan of the separator, fat and good
grains drop in the nearest bucket (on the
right) and the thin and poor grains drop
on the left, and the dust and dried grass
pieces are blown off from the exhaust in
the middle. A primitive but a cool machine.

As the busiest season is just finished
and the end of the series
of field works is within each one's view,
we were able to enjoy friendlier conversation
and the works together than before.

The atmosphere was calm and friendly at the
sunset of a fine autumn day. We even talked about
a small excursion to a soba restaurant for a
study of our future soba growing.

郵便局で封書を出そうとして、
「切手お願いします」という。
窓口の人はしばし切手を
入れてある引き出しを開け閉め
してから、適当なのが
なかったのか、機械をポンッとおして
切手のかわりになる紙切れを
出して貼ろうとする。

「切手でお願いします」と再度いって、
ようやく「これでもいいですか」と言って
記念切手みたいなのをちぎってくれた。
「切手なら何でもいいです。
それなら尚いいです」とお願いする。
「出しておきますから」といって、
今出した切手と、機械からだした
紙切れを手許に置いて、清算する。
此方は後を見ずに「お願いします」
といって郵便局を出る。
本当に切手を貼ってくれたんだろうか、
と思いながらも一応信用したふり
をする。

こんなことが何度も起こる、
こちらは切手を貼りたいから
「切手をお願いします」というのに、
大抵は機械でポンとやる。
「切手をお願いしたんですが」というと、
「すみません」といいながら切手を出してくる。
本当に切手を貼ってくれているのか、
だとすればあの紙切れはどうなるんだろうか。

それにしても、こらは「切手」といって
いるのに機械を
ポンとやって証書みたいなのを
出すのは、何故なんだろうか。
あの紙切れも切手というのだろか？

それじゃー本物の切手をほしいときは
何といえばいいんだ！

少々訂正
先日、シラーの主芽壊死のことを
　Main Bud Necrosis と書いたが、
正しくは　Primary Bud Necrosis でした。
MBNじゃなんか変だなと思いながらも、確かめもせずに
間違いを書いてしまいました。　PBNです、PBN.

When I asked for a stamp for my envelope
at the post office, a staff there searched
in the drawer in vain and push a buttom on
a machine and print out a piece of paper
used in place of stamp.

I reminded her taht I had asked as stamp.
Then she pull out a sheet of special stamps and asked me
if it was OK or not. That stamp was fine or better
than usual one. She cut one stamp and put it
in front of her together with my envelope and
the piece of paper prited out by a machine. She
said that she would stamp and post it for me.
I left the envelpe with her and left the post
office wondering if she used which one for
my envelope.

This kind of thing occurs many times. Almost
evry time I asked for a stamp, a staff there
pushed a buttom and printed out the piece of
paper. How do they call the piece of paper, a stamp?
If so, how can I ask for a real stamp when I want one ?

巨峰の作業も一息つき、
午前中は天気がよかったので
この間刈った蕎麦の天日干しを
した。

が、午後になって天気予報どおり
に雨になり、更に急速に
気温が下がってきて寒い。

夜になり車のヘッドライトに
映し出される雨の中に白いものが
舞ったような。

浅間山や菅平では初雪が降った
らしい。まだ10月なのだが、
それでも平年より10日程も
遅い初雪だという。明日からも
寒い日が続くようだ。

I spreaded buckwheat for sundrying
this morning after the busy harvest
season of Kyoho grapes.

But the weather changed as forecasted
in the afternoon and it started raining.
What was more, the temperature went down
quickly and it got cold.

In the evening, I found snow flakes
in the rain lit by the car light.

The news said it had snowed for the
first time in this winter season
at Asamayama mountain and in Sugadaira
area. It is still October but the first
snow was late for around 10days than
usual year. It seems that cold weather
is expected from tomorrow for a while.
