葡萄の栽培シーズン中
体が二つあればと思うほど
有無を言わせずにやらねば
ならないことが山ほどあった。

収穫シーズンも、ともかくも
目の前のやらねばならないことを
どんなことをしてでも
片付けねばならなかった。

収穫が一段落しても
やる事は沢山ある。
やってもやらなくても
時間は過ぎてゆく。
無為に過ごす時間には
後ろめたさがつきまとう。

年々樹々は太く大きく育ち
畑の様子は変わってゆく。
果実は充実しているし、
ワインも美味しくなってゆく。
少なくともそこには費やした
時間の積み重ねがある。
ただ、何かが足らない。
いつも何か遣り残して
いるような…。
欲張りなのか、なまけもの
なのか？

During grape growing season, there were
too many things that I had to do wishing
to have a clone of myself.

In the harvest season, there was
no choice but I had got to do so many
things that I had to settle.

Even after finishing the harvest, there
are still many things to do. Notwithstanding
that I do or I do not do those, time passes
by for sure. If I spent a day doing little,
I feel uncomfortable.

Every year the vines grow bigger,
the fruit becomes richer, and the wines
become better. There I can find the
time that I have spent and the achievement
that I have done at least.

But why do I feel something missing?
I always feel that I forget something.
Am I too greedy or too lazy?

大分寒くなりましたね
というのが、ここ2～3日の
挨拶になりました。

周囲の山の紅葉も
急速に色を濃くしてきて、
いつぞやの濃い緑の
山の風情はありません。

小布施の中国美術館の
紅葉も綺麗でした。
初夏の名残りの
蝉の抜け殻が紅葉に
しがみついて風に揺れていたり、
入り口のガラスに
映った鮮やかな黄色が
しばしその周囲を
明るく染めていました。

It's cold today, isn't it?
That has replaced hello in our
daily life.

The yellow and red colours in the
sorrounding mountains are getting
clearer. The mountains have changed
its colour completely showing no
signs of deep green just a few weeks ago.

The Japanese maple trees
at the Chinese Antique Museum in Obuse
are bright yellow as in the picture.
The summer's leftover, a cicada's shell,
is clinging on an yellow leaf and the
yellow leaves shining on the glass
make the garden a bit brighter.

今年はメルローの畑に異変が起きた。
結論から言うと、生理障害だと
判断した。

症状はひどいすぎる縮果。
原因はおそらく地下水位。
地下水位が高い→
根が深く伸びない→
根が浅く表土に分布→
7月の旱魃（6月の半分の降水量）・
かつ副梢の伸び→
表土が極度に乾燥→
房から水分が奪われる→
縮果。

こういうパターンだと思われる。

そのせいだろうか、今頃
副梢の端あたりから
少しだが花穂が
できているのを見つけた。

剪定で切ってしまう枝なので
問題はないが、今年は
この畑固有の現象が起きて
色々考えさせられている。

I experienced accidents
in a Merlot vineyard this year.
It seems a physiological accident
to the vines.

The symptom is heavy shriveling.
It may be caused by the higher underground
water level. What happened may be;
Higher underground water level →
Limited growth of root system →
Root system spreads in the limited
depth from the surface →
Drought in July (half rainfall of that
in June) & secondary shoots growth　→
Dryint out of the ground surface where
the root systems exist →
Water is absorbed from the bunches　→
Heave Shriveling.

Maybe due to the accident, I found
the new shoots growth with baby bunches
from the secondary
branches at this time though not so many.

These branches may not cause harm to next
year because the brances are not necessary ones
which will be pruned in this winter.

Because of these puzzling accidents, I have
come to consider the factors of growing grapes
including soil, weather, macro-, meso- and
micro-climate, vine's physiology,
and other interrelated issues
in each vineyard more.

韓国で生まれた夫と
日本人の妻の間にできた
男の子が日本の総理大臣
になるなんて日が来ること
なんてあるのだろうか。

それが、韓国人でなくても、
中国人でもタイ人でもヴェトナム人でも。

ツルネンさんという帰化フィンランド人
が参議院にはいるが、ちょっと状況が
違う。

日本名で大臣にまでなったが
汚職疑惑で自殺してしまった外国系の
政治家はいたらしいが…。

そういうことがアメリカでは起こるんだ。
「不可能なことなんてない」ということを
実感して、その事実に感動している
アメリカ人がテレビに映し出されて
いたのが印象的だった。

バラク・オバマの政治手腕はこれから
明らかになるのだが、アメリカという国
の可能性の体現を目の当たりできた
事は幸運な事だと思った。

キング牧師の I have a dream. One day....　というスピーチ
からそんなに時を経ているわけではないのに。
アメリカはWASPが支配していて、…という
アメリカ論が早晩陳腐なものになるのだろうな。

オバマの使ったというエンパシーという言葉は
今後の日本でもキーワードになるだろうな。

それにしてもオバマ大統領の出現によって、
「やればできるんだ」という
とんでもないエネルギーがアメリカに、
しかも若者の間に生まれそうな予感。

日本にも、そんな変革が必要だな。

I wonder if there is a day
when a son of Korean born father and a
Japanese mother beomes the prime
minister in Japan.

Be he a Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, etc.

We have Mr. Turunen, a Finland born member
of the House of Councilors, but it is not
the case.

I hear that there was a Minister in the
Cabinet whoes family had come from
Korea. He comitted suicide beacuse of
a corruption case.

But such a case can happen in USA.
It was very impressive when I saw an
American in the TV seemingly moved
very much saying some thing like
nothing was impossible in that country.

I don't know if Barrak Obama makes a capable
President or not but I feel lucky because
I saw the realization of the possibilities
in America.

It was not so long ago when Maring Luther
King Jr. made the famous speach 'I have a dream. One day,...'
One day, the stereotype label on USA that the
country is ruled by WASP will be gone from
many books about the country.

The word 'empathy' he is said to have
used in his campaign will become a key word
in Japan in near future.

In any case, following the first African
American President Obama, there seems a
huge energy to grow there especially among
the young Americans.

We need such change in Japan, too!

里の山も大分秋色が
進んだ。

朝夕はめっきり寒くなり、
暮れる時間も早くなった。
11月に入って町に流れる
「百々川橋」も4時半になった。

明日は放射冷却で
大分冷えこむらしい。
オリオン座も今晩は
東の空に低くはっきりと見える。

The scenary has turned
its colour to the autumnal
one around here.

It's got cold in the morning
and in the evening. In November,
the music 'Dogogawabashi'
played by the public
speakers announcing the time for
the children to go home started
earlier at 4:30m.

The temperature is expected to go
very low tomorrow moning because of
the cooling by radiation. The sky is
very clear outside tonight and the
Orion constellation is shining low
and clear in the east.
