昨日(14日）ワイン東京2009にて
楠ヴィニヤーズの小間を訪ねて
下さった皆様。ありがとうございました。
私のワインに対する業界の方々の
率直なご意見を伺うことができて
大変良い勉強になりました。

展示会後、知人に誘われて
白金のＯ邸にて素晴らしいディナーを
頂き、本日午後帰って来ました。
早速畑の整備などで忙しく
しておりました。

大変多くの方々に訪れて頂き、
丁寧な対応をお一人お一人に
できずに失礼があったかと
思います。その点まずお詫び申し上げます。

会場では、お薦めの白である
セミヨン/ソーヴィニオン・ブランと
赤のメルロー/カベルネsに対して
非常に好意的なコメントが多く、
意を強く致しました。
『美味しい』とか、『すごい』、
『驚きました』、『葡萄を感じます』
等々。嬉しい言葉を沢山頂きました。
また、一度テイスティングをした
方が、わざわざお知り合いを連れて
再度訪ねてくれたり、もう一度試飲したい
と再訪してくれたりと嬉しいことが
多々ありました。

また、何と言っても突然目の前に現れた
俳優でワインに造詣が深い辰巳琢郎さんが、
セミヨン/ソーヴィニオン・ブラン
をいたく気に入ってくださり、
ご同行の方やテレビのクルーをわざわざ呼んで
紹介してくださり、また
自分の番組で紹介したいから
ワインを送るようにと言って下さったりと
赤面するほどほめて頂いたのは
とても嬉しく、ありがたい思いでした。
辰巳さんは、その後日本のワイナリー等
の各出展社のブースを丁寧にまわられるなど
日本ワインに対する熱い愛情と
細やかな心遣いをを見せて頂き、
一堂感動でした。辰巳さんには改めて
お礼申し上げます。

多くの方々からたくさんの励ましと同時に厳しい言葉も
頂き、一層高品質の葡萄つくりに力を入れようと
いう思いを強くしました。それと同時に
やはり自前のワイナリーを一刻も早く
設立せねば、という決意を新たにしました。
場所もほぼ決まったことだし、いよいよ
ストラクチャーとファイナンスの具体化に
とりかかります。

I would like to express my sincere
appreciation to the people who visited
my booth and tasted my wines yesterday
at the Wine Tokyo 2009 in Tokyo. Your
comments were highly valued and encouraged
me a lot in future grapegrowing and winemaking.

After the exhibition, I was invited by one of
my friends to a private dinner in Shirogane
which I enjoyed very much for such a rare
occasion and a meeting with the people
who were enjoying their own lifestyle.
It was indeed an another experience to
me. I came back home this afternoon and
spent a halfday busy doing preparing
a new farm yard.

At the exhibition, I did not have enough
time to explain each wine to each visitor
for which I would like to apologize first
of all.

In the meantime, I was very glad and
encouraged a lot to have heard they say
'good wines', 'superb', 'shocked' or
'not manipulated and good grape aroma'
, etc. to my wines including most recommended
white Semillon/Sauvignon Blanc 2008 and red
Merlot/Cabernets 2007.

I was happy not only to have received
so many positive words but to have had some
who visited me again by bringing their
friends to taste my wines or simply
taste them again by themselves.

Especially, I was so surprised to receive
a visit by famous actor and wine connoiseur
Takuro Tasumi suddenly appearing in front
of me and talked to me about my wines.
He should have remembered me! I met him
last time in Nagano at Naganao Apellation
Control Conference and Reception more than
one year ago when he tatsted my Chardonnay
2006.

He liked my Semillon/Sauvignion Blanc 2008
very much and introduced the wine and me
to his accompanies and TV crews. He proposed
me to introduce the wine in his program which
I had no reason to refuse at all. I felt he put
it too much about my wines but of course
I was very very happy at them.
He after then visited each booth frankly which
made us feel his warm heart to the Japanese wines and
moved us very much for his kind cares to the
exhibitors.

In general, I had so many affirmative words and
encouragements and negagtive comments as well.
All these words made me feel strongly that I should
put more efforts in my vineyards, and especially that
I should start my own winery as soon as possible.
As the location had been nearly found, I should start
finalizing the structure and financing in a real sense.

巨峰の房切りに向けて
漸くその他の仕事の
目途がついてきた。
今日も過ごしやすく
昨日に続き欠損部の
苗植え。ピノノワールの
残りをやる。凍害等にやられ
もう持ちそうもない樹の
隣には台木を植える。
メルローの畑にも同様に
台木を植えた。台木が
大分余ったので、メルローや
ピノの穂木の仮植えの
隣にさして行く。
その後開墾した畑の
耕運。

台木は緑枝接木をするのだが
今年は去年植えた台木が
沢山あるので、うまく
接木しないとね。

Towards the bunch forming
of Kyoho grapes when I would
be too busy to do anything else,
I have been gradually settling
other works to be done in many
vineyards.

Under the comfortable weather,
I continued to replant the
young vines at the lost vines'
location in Pinot Noir and
Merlot vineyards. Next to the
damaged vines by cold or by
pest, I just planted rootstock
cuttings to replace them next year.
I have many rootstock cuttings left
which I planted in the nursery corner
of a vineyard with Merlot and
Pinot Noir cuttings.
The I cultivate the new vineyard
to prepare plant more vines.

To these rootstock cuttings I planted
in the vineyards, I will green graft
in next month. I have many vines to
graft this year and will try to be
successful in doing so.

今日は大分過ごしやすい天候
だった。

4年前に挿し木したまま
余り手を入れてない小さな
畑の剪定をする。
苗木を植え替えようと思ったのだが
しっかりと根を張っていて
スコップ程度では掘り起こせない。
仕方がないので諦めて、来春に
重機で掘り起こすことにした。
シラーズがいい具合にブッシュヴァイン
になっている。このまま残そうか。
草刈をしていたら小さなかまきり
が何匹も帽子にくっついてくる。
孵化の季節なんだな。

週末に引き続いて苗木を植える。
欠株したセミヨン、ソーヴィニオン・ブラン、
ピノ・ノワール。
セミヨンの畑の隣では昨年
植えたメルローとフランが
大分出芽している。
そうか芽かきの季節なんだ。
と、思い立って今のうちに
芽かきを少々。巨峰も
やらなきゃね。

The weather was kind today.

I pruned (almost summer pruning!)
own rooted vines that I had not
touched at all since last
winter. I thought I would transfer
these vines to other vineyards.
But their root was big and strong
so that I was not able to get enough
root system for replanting. I gave it
up today. I would use backhoe next
spring. Cultivar shiraz seem in good
shape as bushvines. I will keep them
as they are here.

While removing weeds around the trunk,
many small mantis climbed on my cap.
It's time to hatch.

After that I planted young
vines again in the place the previous
vines had been dead mostly due to the
cold injury or pest. Semillon, Sauvingon
Blanc and Pinot Noir. I found many young
buds were coming out on the vines of
Merlot and Cabernet Franc which I had planted
last year by the Semillon vineyard.
So I disbudded them lower buds on the trunk.
It reminded me that it was time of disubudding.
So I have to disbud on Kyoho vines, too.

暑い一日だった。
7月の暑さだったらしい。
幸いにも、今日はワイン東京の
準備に掛かりきりになっていたので
暑熱の中での農作業はなかった。
真夏でももちろん農作業は
あるのだが、体が暑さに慣れて
いないこの時期この暑さ
には無理がきかない。
そういう私はナマケ者？

昨日今日と
葡萄の生育が急に進んだような。

(畑では玉ねぎが元気です）

It was a very warm day today
and the temperature went up
to that in July. I was lucky
enough today because I was
busy preparing for the coming
exhibition Wine Tokyo 2009
almost whole day. I was not
in the vineyard under the heat
today. Of course, I work even
under such heat in July and August
but I had better avoid to do so
when my body is not accustomed
to the heat yet like this time.
Or am I lazy enough to say so?

I seems that the new shoots of
vines have grown a lot
yesterday and today.

先日知り合いを通して
天草の晩柑と甘夏を
取り寄せた。何でも無農薬
栽培とかで、見た目はよくないが
という触れ込みではあった。
晩柑は上品な味、甘夏は
昔はすっぱいばかりだったような
記憶があるが、いけます。
なんといってビタミンＣ補給。
グッドタイミング！

で、引き取る時に栽培者からの
メッセージと写真があって、
其処には晩柑か甘夏のどちらかの樹に
収穫できそうな実がなって
いて、その直ぐ両隣や上下で白い花が
咲いている。メッセージも、果実と
花が同時です、みたいなことが書いて
あった。

花が咲いて実がなって、その実があるうちに
また花が咲いているのか? え、じゃあ
1年に何度も収穫できるの？　と思ってしまう。
ここのところは栽培者でもないので
わからないが、この手のシトラス・フルーツって
そうなの？　年に一度しか収穫できない果物を
作っていると、そういう栽培ができるのは
かなり不思議なんだが…。
そういうことなのかな？

今日もお手伝いの方のおかげで
ワイヤ張りや、山葡萄の
苗植えができた。おかげで大分
はかどりました。感謝です。

I mail-ordered citrus fruits
from Amakusa, Kyushu. Its catch is
chemical free. The appearance is
not brilliant but the taste is
sophisticate and elegant. Summer
orange used be very sour but they
are OK. Citrus fruit for me is
just nice especially when I need
Vitamin C most.

There were a message and a photograph
from the grower. The photo shows the
fruit on the tree with flowers aroud
the fruit. The message said the fruit
and the flowers were seen at the same
time. Is that so?

Flower becomes fruit and the flower
and the fruit at the same time ?
Can the grower harvest fruit a few time
in a year on the same tree? I really
don't know it. As I grow fruit which I can
harvest only once a year. Therefore
such citrus fruit seems very funny to me.
Is that really so? It must be...

Thanks to a helper in the vineyard
today again I was able to finish installing
fruiting wires and suppot poles
in the new vineard, and planting
indigenous Japanese grapes, etc.,
a great progress. Thank you very much!
