Bunch forming of Kyoho grapes
which is the most important operation
for this table grape has just begun.
I reduced the area of Kyoho grapes
this year in order to concentrate
more in winegrapse but still this
operation needs tremendous works
from early morning to sunset everyday
for two weeks.
I was not able to confirm enough number
of helpers this year and I just started
this morning with only Ms.K. Later Mr.Y
who is a volunteer trainee joined. In the
afternoon, Ms. T came in just before Ms.K
was to finish for the day. Thank you very
mush everybody.
From tomorrow Ms. I who was introduced by
H-chan who had helped me last year and
C-chan who helped me with H-chan will
come to give their hands. Including Ms.K
and her frineds, I am getting enough hands
for my Kyoho grape bunch forming.
I am getting relieved and I will take care
my winegrapes during this crazy season.
At break time, Mr. Y told my that
Mr. Takuro Tatsumi, a famous actor
and wine conoisseur, wrote about me
in his official blog which I did not
know at all. On returning home, I checked
his blog and found that he had wrote about
me and my wine twice on May 15 and May 25!
I really appreciate it. He should have written
one soon after the Wine Tokyo 2009 event.
I am so glad because he picked me up
out of 91 companies participated in the show.
What is more, I received an e-mail message
from his office saying that his TV programm
would introduce about my wines within this
month? I really long for it with my heart
beating fast. I wonder how my wine is
treated. I am a bit nervous, too.

A sake rice planting meeting will be
held at 9:00 am on June 14 (Sun)
at Shiono area in Suzaka. The rice
will become sake 'Suzaka'. Harvest
will also be planned in autumn.
Why don't you join and enjoy raw sake
and the fresh sake together ?
Shiono is the tasty rice producing
area and the step-like rice paddies
are so beautiful.
We will wait for lots of people
joining such event. Please contact us by
making comments to this blog.

The sever system refused connection
yesterday for the temporaly system protection
due to the excessive connection
and therefore I was not able to update
my blog. Just over ten thousands of connection
screwed up the system.
Going back to today's theme. I irrigated
my Merlot vineyard yesterday and today.
While mowing the vineyards, I found this
vineyard had very little weeds by comparing
with other vineyards. It reminded me of the
water stress. We had not have rain for many
days here. As the vineyard was on the rice
paddie there was no irrigation system and
the ground was very very dry.
That was not good, clay ground once dried up
would cut the thine roots of the vines.
The cuttings planted this Spring had all
died already. There was little water.
The new shoots looked a bit weak then.
As such, I pulled an old pump which
I only used once four years agao.
The engine did not start at all after
four years. I took it to my friend's
service facility to fix it.
The pump was examined and adjusted and the
fuel was drained and re-fueled. Then
the pump started working. Because of
the irrigation, I was wet to the skin
for two days.
I have drip line system in a warehouse
which I bought from Australia six year
ago. I would install such system
by next Spring. This year my irrigation
look like this.
After having started irrigation, I got a bit of
rain fall yesterday and today at around
three pm. They were too little to be a
good rainfall. But at around 6pm today,
we had a shower which stopped raining
in one hour. But it was the real rain that
we had long waited for. With the irrigation
and the shower, I hope the vines would have
a good relief. Survive my Merlots !
to dispers in all directions

I found a spider web like this
while doing tarinig of vines. It
seems that the baby spiders have just
hatched. While watching them, I wonder
how to express in English 'kumono
kowo chirasu youna' which means
to disperse in all directions. But
there is no word about spiders
not like in Japanese.
Even I put my finger into the web,
the baby spiders would not vanish at once.
Rather they would go away from each other
not to meet each other again in long period
of time. Such word seems to be spoken with
certain time axis.
Any how, to put pesticides in next spray or
not, that is the question.

It is the unusual sight to those who
are not accustomed to this kind.
I went to Sugadaira Kogen Heights
just next to Minenohara Kogen
Heights. It is the time to plant
summer vegetables like lettus there.
It is silver all around up to the
middle of mountains. They must be
reflection sheets mulching insetead
of black one. It should avoid certain
insects and protect the veges.
I hear that there is no abondaned yard
in Sugadaira because of the lettuc growing.
The rental of the farm is more expensive than
that in lower altitude areas. Some say
that lettus farming is good business and
the farmers are rich here.
Neighbour's grass should be greener...
It makes me wonder if lettus growing is
possible in Suzaka at relatively high
altitude area only if there was no wild
animals like monkeys, bores, etc.,
which would damage the veges.
