It is the winery run by a couple of
Kieth's old friend. They seemed to
be at Kieth's parents' age. This winery
is not listed on the James Halliday's, either.
Noon-san said it was a winery producing
good wines by an old couple. It seemed
one of the purposes of this Barossa trip.
After the winery tour at Seppeltfield,
we had light lunch of coffee and cake on
the grass and headed to the winery. A part of their own
house was the cellar door but of course
it was closed for sold-out. We chatted for
a while in the house and were give each
one bottle of wine. Then we moved to their
winery by car but the winery manager was
out somehow and all the doors were locked.
We were not able to get in this time then
we decided to put it off until the next
opportunity which seemed to me an OZ way.
Recently I have found that their wines
have been sold at very high price in Japan
to my surprise. It is also to my surprise
that the Japanese wine importer
had even found such a small winery. The wine
they gave us was Apricot Black Shiraz 2006 which
I later found was sold at very reasonable price.
It may be because of the younger age of the vines.
In Adelaide at Edignborogh Bottle Shop, I mentioned
this wine and the staff took it out from one of the
racks. It was amazing, wasn' it ? Their range of
wines was very comprehensive and the same or better
than the Tanunda Bottle Shop. The staff are
really good wine advisers.
We came back to the town of Tanunda
near Tanunda Bottle shop. Noon-san and Kieth went
to see the guy again. Their lunch plan at
the Vintner's was a bit of temptation to me
but I had to go back and prepare for the
departure. So I bidded farwell to both of them
there. Via Barossa Valley Lookout, I took
the Onkaparinga Senic Road back to Adelaide.

At 8am on the following day of the
dinner at Appellation., we were at the
Seppeltsfields for the appointment
of the tasting of fortified wines which
Kieth wanted to import to Alaska.
Palm trees are kind of symbol of the
winery.
They are making sparkling and still wines
of course but it is reputed for its fortified
wines. As it is not know well today, but in
Australia wines were meant to be fortified
ones until 1970s. Dry wines became dominant
only after those days. The winery has the histroy
since 19th century.
Fortified wines are made with the addition
of alchool during its process and the alchool
content is higher than dry wines. There are
many kinds depending on the process and
the grape varieties, like fino-sherry type,
amontillado, oroloso, tokay, muskat, port, etc.
All develop so called rancio character durin
maturation.
After the tasting, we were invited to a
winery tour and it took three hours to
finish the morning. So I had to skip
to visit a winery where one of my friends
was working as wine maker.
Amuse: Fig with prochute

and fillettes
Tartlet of Hutton Vale lamb's tongue with caramelized onion and
caperberries
Sorbet was served here, I believe.

When Noon-san was to pay for the bottles
at the Tanunda Bottle Shop, he gave his
credit card at the casher. Then the staff
or the owner recognized his name and said
to him, '' Oh it's you! I called your winery
to get some bottles but were sold out...''
''I remember I talked with your a few years
ago...'' Chatting continued and suddenly the
casher asked him '' What is your favorite wine ?''
''I like Grenache''. "Just a minute" he ran into
the shop and returne with a bottle of wine in
his hand. "Please try this one. This is very good
wine. The winemaker is xxxxxxx making good wines
and he lives near xxxx" so and so.
He seemed very happy and was indeed very kind, too.
We bought around 10 bottles of wines.
On the following day, Noon-san dropped by at
the bottle shop to say thank you to him.
He is a gentleman. Eclips will be sold at this
bottle shop from next vintage.
At the restaurant, we were allowed to bring in our
bottles of wines with a small corkage. We selected
Clarendon Hills Old Vinge Grenache, the bottle
shop's grenache and a Shiraz chosen by Noon-san.
The sommelier at the restaurant during the dinner
offered us a glass of his recommending grenache, too.
With the aperitif, we cosnumed quite a few amount
of wines.
The restaurant named "Appellation." stood alone in
the middle of vineyards in the Barossa Valley having
accomodations for its guests. Is it like a rural
three star restaurant in France?
The executive chef is Mark McNamara and his young
son is the sommelier. The wine list is very thick and
comprehensive. Good selction of wines were including
French, Italian, Spain, too. The pricing seemed
very reasonable for the setting of the restaurant,
qulaity of the food and the level of wines.
In the menu, a short notice was written as
"Please take three hours to finsh the dinner".
According to the young sommelier, they sometimes
saty at around 1:30 am. We arrived at 8:30pm and
left the restaurant at 12:30.
I had a glass of Champagne Gosset for an aperitif
while Noon-san had sherry and Kieth Pinot Noir.
Followings are the food I seleceted from the a la carte
menu:

It was a cold rainy day today.
At a gathering, beer and sake were
served none of them were made in Suzaka.
Ladies' voices for wines were heard.
I wonder if I should have offered some of
my wines in advance?
When does everybody want wines of Suzaka ?
I have serious problems with my computer.
It may need to be fixed soon. If you don't receive
any response to your e-mail or mail orders, please
call me directly as I would not have seen your
message or order. Sorry for inconvenience caused.

I have been busy in the vineyards
since having come back from Australia.
Three weeks have passes as if in a mere
single day. We have had changing weather
last three weeks but the season has been
changing with flowering cherry blossoms,
and prune a pram are in full bloom. The
mountain has begun to wear light green
color with young buds. In the farm yard,
people are busy planting potato for the
last minute while in the vineyards frogs
still in white color are walking around.
