In the cold drizzling rain, I picked cabernet sauvignon
grown on the overhead trellis and then second year
merlot in the other vineyard. In the afternoon, I joined
the soy beans harvest or rather pulling from the ground
and put them on the ground upside down in order to dry
for a few days. Threshing or separating beans from the pods
is expected on the week end.
On the same week end, the harvest of cabernet franc
is scheduled in my vineyards. I have great expectation
on the quality of cabernet franc wine in the future. I hope
to make one like the one in Adelaide Hills, a very elegant
style.
Speaking of expectation, I have another expectation on
the Riesling wine here. My Riesling, which had reductive
odor at the time of bottling, dose not show such strange
aroma and has become neutral. I hope it will become
fragrant or floral by next Spring.

I would say I finished the harvest of Merlot today
but I have not. It started raining in the afternoon
and I was not able to finish the vineyard of second
year (pre-first vintage!). And I remembered not to have
harvested Cabernet Sauvignon trained on the overhead
trellis. I have to wake up early to finish them within
early morning.

Special thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Takatsu for the
mushroom soup and other local delights.
We finished harvest of Cabernet Sauvignon today.
Most of the bunches are with much less berries this year
due to the heavy rain at the time of flowering. So even though
the container was full, the weight was almost as half as that of
usual year. However, the quality seems very high.
As many as 29 people joined the harvest which was unexpectedly
many more than expected before. We were able to finish grape picking
in two hours. Then we have lunch with BBQ, wild mushroom soup
and oyaki, soul food of Shinshu, season’s veges and apples like
Shinano Gold. All the dishes taste good.
They liked my wines very much, too. I was so glad to hear the
people say it was a great fun. If people were happy, I am happy, too.

I visited Osako for the first time in last
20 years. Some said F and B business is not doing
well but it seemed very vibrant and active town with
young power. What I found are;
1) Passengers are waiting on the platform while the people
from the subway train finish getting out of the train.
2) Those who on the escalator stands on the right keeping
the left lane open while right lane is kept open in Tokyo.
3) There are many bike riders. In the morning they drive
bikes fast on the pedestrian way.
4) There are so many wine bars and pubs which serve wines.
I thank you very much to those who visited my booth and tasted
wines. I was moved that many young pubs or bottle shop owners
were so serious to taste wines which were inspiring. I felt enormous
enthusiasm and vitality from them,too.
In addition, I got acquainted with the wine makers in
Kasai area. I thank you a lady who liked my
Chardonnay very much and took in so may people
to taste my wines.
I asked Ms. Watanabe who is the famous winemaker at Kobe Wine
holding Oenologue in France and is taken up in many
media recently to take a picture with me. She was so kind to agree with
it and allowed me to show the photo in my blog.
Now I am leaving for Osaka to attend
