サイドウェイで俄然注目された
カリフォルニアのピノ。オーストラリアの
ピノも個性的。ヴィクトリアやタスマニアといった
冷涼な地方が名産地として知られる。

が、南オーストラリアのアデレード・ヒルズには
アシュトンヒルという小さいけれど南オーストラリアで
ナンバーワン・ピノの評価を得たワイナリーもある。
そのワインの色は驚くほど軽い。色なんか関係ないだろ、
うまけれりゃいいだろ、ということらしい。

その近くにバラットという、余り知られていないけど
美味しいワインをつくるワイナリーがある。
カベルネ・フランも美味しかった(もしかしたらパラクーメの
思い違いかも）。

ブルゴーニュとはまったく違うピノ。
北信のピノもあんな感じになるのかな。

楠ヴィニヤーズの　ピノノワール2008
いいんだなこれも。

Because of the success of the film Sideways,
Californian Pinot Noir became the center of
interest in USA. In Australia, the cool climate
regions in Victoria and Tasmania are well known
for good Pinot Noir.

Meanwhile, in South Australia, there are a smaller
producers in Adelaide Hills including Ashton Hill which
may be number one Pinot Noir in South Australia.
Their Pinot Noir is very light in color but the producer
does not seem to care the color at all. He may say he does
not mind color but the taste counts.

Barratt is another small producer nearby.
Their Pinot Noir was also good. I thought they
made Cabernet Franc, too.

These Pinot Noir are different in style from those
in Bourgogne.

I wonder if Pinot Noir in our region here in North of
Shinshu is more like those in Adelaide Hills?

Kusunoki Vineyards’ Pinot Noir 2008 is good, too!

昨日機会があって楠ヴィニヤーズの
セミヨン/ソーヴィニオン・ブラン2009 と
シャルドネ2008を飲んだ。

いずれもかなり良くなっていて安心。
セミヨンSBはセミヨンらしさがかなり出てきて
いて、やはりSBだけのワインとは一線を画しています。
これからどんどん良くなってゆく予感。

(セミヨン/ソーヴィニオン・ブラン2009)

シャルドネは、おいしさが前面に出てきました。
開くのに時間がかかっていて、ニュートラルな
印象を与える時間が長かったのに、今は初めから
香り高く複雑さが口の中で広がります。

Yesterday I had a chance to taste
Kusunoki Vineyards’ Semillon/Sauvignon Blanc
2009 and Chardonnay 2008.

I am happy to have found both wines are in
good condition and taste wonderful.

Regarding Semillon/Sauvignon Blanc 2009, it
now shows the favorable character of Semillon on the nose
and the palate. It really tastes good and better than single
variety wine of Sauvignon Blanc. I hope it will develop
better in near future.

Chardonnay 2008 now starts speaking itself. It needed
some time to release good aroma and taste before after
being poured into the glass but it now shows more tropical
fruit and honey on the nose and has more complexity
with minerals on the palate.

Both are really good wines, I believe.

2週間ほど南オーストラリアへ
ワインの勉強に行ってました。

本当にワイン漬けの毎日。
ちょっと無い貴重な経験でした。
少しずつ紹介して行きます。

それにしても、全ては現地の
早坂さん夫妻のご好意によって
実現したものです。宿泊と車を提供して下さり
、さらにはご自宅を自由に使わせてくださった、
その好意に感謝の言葉以外のものはありません。
本当にありがとうございました。

それにしても、そいう得がたい方々と出会えた
のは何という幸運なことなのか。

今回は、それに加えて行く先々で出会った方々が親切に
してくれて本当に感謝感謝の毎日でした。

I was out to South Australia for
about two weeks to study around
wine. Everyday a lot of wines - what an
experience ! The layers of precious moments
which I will introduce a bit here.

This time, I cannot find any other proper
words than 'Thank you very much' to express my
gratitude to Mr. and Mrs. Hayasaka living in
Adelaide who were so kind to treat me as a
family member letting me stay with them, use
their car and make feel at home. I really
appreciate their kindness.

I find myself very fortunate to have such nice
people. What is more, everybody at any place
were so kind to me and us, wine tour members.
I feel something very warm in my heart.
What a nice trip and experience.
I really thank you all for every thing again and
again.

Suzaka city, the mercy of nature to wines - soil

須坂市は、信州の北部にあって
その一部を群馬県に接し、
県境を成す山々を背に、やがて
信濃川に名前を変える千曲川に下る
いくつかの中小河川の扇状地や河岸段丘の
上にある。山すそが切れたあたりから
千曲川に向かって全体が西向きのやや平坦な
斜面となる。その河岸から根子岳、
四阿山（あずまやさん）あるいは
南志賀方面に目をやると、標高
300メートル前半から1500メートル以上へ
と標高差のある地形をなし、道は山懐に入ると
急峻な坂道となる。

（塩野近辺から長野市を望む。右やや中央よりの黒い
二つこぶのように見えるのが臥竜山。）

そのような深い山々を起源として
何十万年或いはそれ以上の年月をかけて
形成された扇状地にはかつての山土や
森林土が堆積し、水はけが大変
良いだけではなく滋味豊かな土壌を
形成しているようだ。この地で造られた
ワインにミネラルや複雑で奥深い
風味を感じるのは、まさにその
土壌の成せる技といえるだろう。

ほかのどことも違うワイン。
それはこの地で造られる葡萄だけが
受けた恩恵によるものではないか。

Suzaka city is stuated in the nothern part
of Shinshu adjacent to Gunma prefecture at
certain part of it and holding the country
deviding mountains as its back. It is on the
fan shape slopes or steps formed by the rivers
flowing into Chikuma River which changes
its name to Shinano River. The slopes become
flatter at the edges of mountains and face
the west. Looking up towards the famous
Nekodake Mountain or Azumaya Mountain from the
river, one can realize the land on a sharp uphill
from the altitude of a little over 300 meters
to 1500 meters and above.

The fan slopes have been formed with the source
of land from the high mountains over hundereds of
thousand years or more with the very fertile soil
originally from the ground of mountains and wood lands.
Therefore the fan is not only permeable but also
very rich. That is why the wines made here are rich in
minerals and have high complexity.

One of the reasons of the uniqueness of the wines
here is the grapes grown here with such mercy.

今日というか、昨日6月11日
長野県原産地呼称管理委員会の
官能審査会があり、
私の「楠ヴィニヤーズ　セミヨン/ソーヴィニオン・
ブラン2008」が、無事認定ワインになりました。

今回須坂産葡萄を使ったワインとしては
唯一の認定です。
名だたる審査員の方々に認めてもらって
嬉しい限りです。
会場での評判もよかったような…。

There held the Nagano Appellatio Control
tasting session in Nagano on the 11th.
My wine, Kusunoki Vineyards Semillon/Sauvignon
Blanc was approved as NAC.

It is the only wine that was made by the
grape grown in Suzaka. According to a few
assessor of the tasting session, it received
good points among the participating wines.
I am very glad to have been approved by
the famous assessors.
