この季節、すっかり定番になった感のある
田中本家博物館のカルガモ親子。
数ファミリーいるらしく、人目のつかない
ところで卵を抱いている鴨も発見。

テレビの取材も来ていて、カルガモを見に来た
のですかと聞かれて、余計な親切心から
「ハイ、そうです」等と嘘をついしまいました。

Duck’s family at Tanaka Family Museum has
become very popular scene at this season in Suzaka.
There may be a few families and I saw a duck sitting
in the dark shadow of a tree hatching eggs.

There was a TV crew shooting the bird family. I looked like
a visitor and was interviewed. They asked me if I came here to
see the duck family. To make it a nice shot, I replied yes.
I know I was a liar.

今日も雨。寒い一日だった。
天候不順は例年のこととはいえ、今年は
また特に不順のような。　既に房切りを始めている
畑もあるようだが、まだまだ早すぎるように思える。

例年なら5月最終週にはじめる房切りだが、今年は
来週半ばくらいからだろうか。今年はりんごの結果数
も極端に少ないようで。去年の異常な暑さや今年の
開花期（これもかなり遅かったのだが）の雨が理由
の様だという話なのだが…。今年は赤熟れ（色の薄い）
の巨峰が多くなるのだろうか。

It was another rainy and cold day today.

Unstable weather is not special any more these days
but this year’s weather is specially different. I found in
a few vineyards people started bunch forming operation on their
Kyoho baby bunches but it seems too early.

In normal year, this operation starts in the last week of May
around here but we may start sometime mid next week. I hear
extraordinary few baby apples formed this year. Some say it
is because of the heat last year and partly because of the rain
during the delayed flowering this Spring. I wonder if we will
have reddish Kyoho grapes this Autumn or not?

The picture is Sauvignon Blanc today in the vineyard
near our town.

Here is Cafe Waraku. The wine bar in Suzaka.
They have my wines in addition to other local
wines. They are said to open the shop with the
expectation that this area will become the great
wine producing region in the future.

I guess it will happen soon.

They have good coffee, too.

今年「日滝原2010」という白ワインをリリース
します。日滝原と名づけたのはシャルドネ2007
に続いて2回目です（ちなみに、これがワインに
日滝原とつけた第一号だと思います）。

日滝原というのは、須坂市北東部と高山村の西部に広がる
扇状地のことです。須坂には日滝地区や住所表示でも
大字日滝、また日滝小学校（我が母校）、という地名や
場所がありますが何れものこの扇状地に位置しています。

いわゆるガラ地で、地面を掘ると石がごろごろ出てきます。
この石を畑の境界に積んだのが、「やつか」とか「やっこら」
あるいは「くろ」等と呼ばれますが、ブルゴーニュのクロ
（Clos）と同音同意というのは不思議な偶然です。

この土地は葡萄栽培にはとても適していて、単に水はけがいい
だけではなく、肥沃な土がおおっていますので葡萄に限らず
美味しい果物の産地なのです。似た土地は須坂市のほかの
地域にもありますが、規模的にも大きく、また
畑として使用が限定されているので（原則的に）、今後
日本のワイン界の中で、ワイン名醸地としての名声が
高まるでしょうね。

地名なので、個人や企業が商標登録はできません。できると
したら、自治体くらいでしょうか。どこまでを日滝原
と呼んでいいか、などという議論が将来起こるかも知れません。
かつて、どこまでをテラロッサと呼べるかという論議が起こった
オーストラリアのように（日本で言えば、どこまでを松坂牛
と呼べるかというような論議）。

I will release a white wine named Hitakihara 2010.
This is the second time I named Hitakihara following
Chardonnay 2007 which might be the first wine
using Hitakihara as its name.

Hitakihara is the rocky fan land formed by the rivers
Matsukawa and Yagisawagawa River in Suzaka city
and a part of Takayama mura.
Hitaki is the regional name in Suzaka and there are such
names as Hitaki and Hitaki elementary school that I used
to go. These places are on this fan.

It is very rocky land and big and small rocks are coming out
once you dig any place on it. The rocks piled up between two
farm land are called Yatsuka, Yakkora, or sometime Kuro.
The pronunciation and the meaning is the same as Clos in
Burgundy, France.

This land is very suitable for growing grapes but in addition to
its high water permeability the cover soil is fertile both of which make
it very good for growing many kinds of fruit. The similar soil exist in other part
of Suzaka but this area is big and widely protected as farm land
(in principle) so the name will be highly appreciated as the best
wine producing region in Japan in the future.

As Hitakihara is the name of the area, an individual or enterprise
cannot register as the trade mark. Only local municipal office may be
able to do so. I wonder there will be a dispute over the area about
to what extent one can call Hitakihara like Terra Rossa in Coonawara,
Australia. Another similar dispute is about the Matsuzaka beef and
the location of the cow growers.

今日は雨の中、田植え。
また、チェーン除草の無農薬栽培です。
今年は2反分を借りて、4時間ほどかかりました。
手押し式の2条植えですから。

合羽を着て、最初の1時間は汗が出て蒸し暑いほど
でしたが、雨が強くなったせいもあり、後半は
びしょ濡れになり、身体も冷えました。
補充の苗を積み忘れてターンするほど。

それでも今日終える事ができて正解でしょう。
雨が上がればぶどうの防除が待ったなしです。

I planted rice today in the heavy rain.
I will try again rice growing without chemicals.
I borrowed 20a of rice paddy this year and
it took me four hours to finish planting.
I used the planting machine which can plant two lines
at once.

I wore rain wear and I got so warm at first one hour
but later due to the continuous and heavier rain I
got to wet to the skin and my body got cold, too.
I forgot to load the sheet of young rice plant a few times.
I may have been tired after a few hours struggling walking
in the mud.

Finally I finished today and it may be right because I have
to spray vines right after the rain has gone.
