苗植え会何とかできました。昨日は2回ほど中止を考えましたが。午前6時、強い雨が降っています。こりゃ今日はダメかと。予報では午後から雨だったのに！　その後7時を廻って小降りになり、空も明るくなり陽がさしてきます。おぉこれならやれる。多分午前中は降らなさそう。水くれに使うssに水を1000リットル入れて準備万端。畑で苗木の根と穂木をきり始めます。そのうち8時半をすぎて、ぽつぽつとまた雨が降り始めて雨脚が激しくなりかけます。あ、こりゃダメかも？　周囲の山の上の空は真っ暗になってきました。そのうち、本田さん、須坂園芸高校の先生と生徒さん3人が到着。やれるところまでやるということで決心して作業開始。ポツリポツリと参加者がの方々が畑に到着して、雨具を着て作業をお願いしました。植える穴ほりです。で、9時15分頃からは、何と雨が上がりまた陽がさして、合羽を着ていると暑い位です。半日はこのまま行きそうな雰囲気。で、参加者の方々も多くなって、作業は順調に進み始めます。小さい子供達や大きい子供達も、シャベル等の道具を持ってお手伝いです。10時を少し廻ったところで、一旦休憩して皆さんをご紹介させて頂きました。休憩前までに、苗を植える穴をほぼ掘ってしまったので、後は植えるだけです。苗木を穴に入れ（穴には子供達が　「ようりん」を入れてくれています）、水をたっぷりくれて土をかぶせてその上をしっかり踏みつけます。約500本の苗木がスピーティーに植えられてゆきます。そして、ほぼ正午に作業終了。さあ、これからBBQだ、というときにまた雨が降り始めました。空も大分暗くなってきました。場所を変えようか等とも迷いましたが、小屋にその下屋を使い、そこに隣接する葡萄棚にブルーシートをかぶせてBBQを強行しました。雨風は強くなるし、ぬれるし、寒いしで、参加の皆様にはちょっと窮屈で不便な思いを強いてしまいましたが。食べ物、飲み物が入るうちに、それなりには楽しんでいただけたかな、などと勝手に思ったりして。いずれにせよ、皆さんご苦労様でした。ありがとうございました。来年には少しは収穫できますが、本格的には3年後にはワインになります。その頃はまた収穫にも来て下さいね。

Mission completed. We had really a funny weather yesterday. Basically it was rainy whole day. It rained hard from time to time and shined from time to time, too, but the vine planting event was carried out and the mission was completed thanks to those who attended the event despite of the capricious weather. I am sorry for the bad weather condition especailly at the BBQ time when it rained really hard. I hope, however, that everybody enjoyed the event and BBQ/drinks even a little bit. In a few years time, we can harvest grapes from this vineyard and enjoy wines all together.
I named all the people attended the event above but I feel guilty that I did not write down all the names I met yesterday. I will check them up and show them in the coming blog screen.

花の季節です。桃、スモモ、サクランボ、りんごの花が咲き始めました。そして、いよいよ周囲の山の色も薄い緑がかって来ました。山桜がまだ茶色のかった山肌のそこかしこを淡く白く飾っています。例年に無く寒い朝が続きますが、気持ちのいいシーズンになってきました。明日（28日）はいよいよワイン葡萄の苗植えです。昨日までは、いい天気という予報だったのが、今晩になったら雨模様の天気です。早めに終えて早めにBBQですね。

We are in the flowering season now. After ume plums and cherry blossoms(sakura), peaches, sumomo plums, cherries(sakuranbo) and apples have started having their flowers. The pictures above are sakuranbo and peaches respectively. Early apples like Tsugaru and India are also in bloom but it takes some more time for fuji apples. Did you know the petal colour is different for Tsugaru and Fuji the former is pink and the latter is pure white. Flower thinning which is an important work in the orchard to remove 5 side flowers by leaving center flower to make better fruit. From one base bud,usually six flowers are produced. Only center flower makes good apple but the other side flowers do not. Only one flower can grow to a bigger fruit, too. But this theory does not apply to Fuji apple. In case of Fuji apple, side flowers can make good one. So whichever it is,only one flower is left on the branch. However, all the branch is not the same. Flowers on the new shoot do not make good fruit so they are usaully all removed during flower/fruit thinning operation.

今日、今年苗植えをする畑に仮植えしてあるシャルドネが芽吹き始めていました。苗は暖かい山梨から来たので少々早く動き始めている様です。で、シャルドネ畑に行ってみるとかなり芽が大きくなっていました。すべての芽が順調の様です。元気に育って美味しい葡萄になりますように。芽が上下に向いていますが、私はここから出た新梢を上向きと下向きに誘引します。その為に主ワイヤ（フルーティングワイン）を高い位置に張っています。

Today I found a few bud bursts among the yound chardonnay which I bought from a nursery in Yamanashi and am planning to plant this year. Because they were from warm Yamanashi, the buds may have started growing earlier. Then I went to my chardonnay vineyards to find the growing buds. The photo shows how big they are today. The buds are upwards and downwards. New shoots growing from these buds will be trained upwards and downwards respectively. In my vineyards, therefore, the fruting wire is set at 1.2m from the ground. This training system is so-called Smart-Dyson.

４月１５日は暖かい陽気でした。でも、昨日今日ととっても寒くなりました。雨はそれほどでもなかったので、花はそんなに散ってはいませんが、ちょっと風邪が強くて花が何時まで持つか…。ちょっとピンボケですが、１５日に人形博物館前の巨峰畑で取った巨峰の芽です。大分大きく丸く膨らんできましたが、芽吹きまでにはもうちょっと時間がかかりそう。

実は、巨峰の芽の天ぷらってとってもおいしいんです。芽といっても写真の状態の芽ではなくて、タラの芽のように若い葉が開きかけたやつです。去年やってみました。おいしかったですよ～。それも早い時期のが良いですね。展葉してからでは、ちょっと食感がわるくなります。

長い種枝では先端の芽から開きますが、これをそのままにしておくと先端部より根っこに近い芽の芽吹きや成長が悪くなります。で、先端の芽は取ってしまってもそれほど問題ありません。残りの芽が均等に成長するので良いくらいです（芽キズを入れることで全部均等に芽吹きさせることもできますので必ずしも誰もが此の時点で芽かきをやるわけではありませんが）。今年も天ぷらやります。販売してみようかなんて思っていますが、販路がありません。で、結局知り合いにおすそ分けして終わりになります。決して人の畑に入ってやってはいけませんよ！

It was a sunny and beautiful day on the 15th but it was very cold yesterday and today with scattered rain. The photo here is taken on the 15th at the Kyoho vineyard near World Doll Museum. It's a bit blurr. The Kyokyo buds are getting bigger and rounder but it takes a bit more time to burst.

By the way, Kyoho young leaves after bud burst are very tasty by Tempra! I tried last year and was surprised with the taste. I wonder if I can sell the young leaves. It's a pity I should not have the sales routes. I have to give them away only to the friends. The top buds after bud burst tend to restrain the lower buds from bud bursting so the top buds on the long cane should be removed. Otherwise lower buds are encouraged to burst by making very shallow cut on the cane at a bit higher position of the buds. The top buds after bursting make hormone which make other buds sleeping so the cuts may stop the downward flow of the hormone to the root.

Some vignerons are tidy enough to make such cuts before bud burst. So the top buds are not always removed. Don't enter into somebody's vineyards and remove the buds for your dinner.

人形博物館の駐車場の脇のサクラのつぼみが大分大きく赤くなってきました。そのうちの１本のサクラが此のくらい咲いていました。今週末は見ごろですね。今日３０段雛飾りが終了しました。２万７千人の来場者があったそうな。

Cherry blossoms start blooming. The picture was taken this morning by the Art Park parking near Garyu Koen Park. About 10% of the blossoms are in bloom at the Garyu Park. Let's go and enjoy them. All the buds are in red color and you can tell they are ready to go. Today was the last day of the Hina dolls festival at the World Doll Museum where 30 steps with 1000 dolls were displayed. About 27,000 people visited outnumbering the last year's total number of visitors.
