セミヨンの畑で剪定中、何本も野鼠にかじられてしまった
葡萄の樹を発見。ガクッと来ます。
ちょっと鼠の穴が多いかなとは思っていたのですが、
鼠がこんなに葡萄の樹をかじるとは。

去年当たりからりんごの樹に被害が多いという
話は聞いていたのですが、隣接する葡萄畑の被害を
ほとんど聞いたことが無かったので油断してました。

４年目になる葡萄の樹の根元の地中部分を火かじって
いました。今年の収穫を期待していたのに！
早速忌避剤（カプサイシン）をまきましたが
後悔先に立たずです。

樹を食べるというよりは、歯を研ぐ為だったのでしょう。
同じ畑の２年目の樹はほとんどやられていません。
４年前に植えた５０本のうち１０本近くがダメになりました。
悲しい。

I found many damaged vines by rats.
It was a great shock to me!
I was wondering indeed that there were so many rats
holes in the vineyard but I did not expect it would
really happen.

Last year I heard many times that apples trees were
bitten off by rats. But on the other hand I also heard
that rats damage on vines were not so common. I regret not
to have paid much more attention to rats damage.

The vines were bitten off at the part a little bit below
ground. Rats may have not eaten them but grind their teeth.
I ran to buy rats protection (capcisine) and spread it around but in any event it's too late. I have lost a lot of harvest
this year as most of damaged vines are four years old. Around 10 out of 50 vines I planted four years ago have gone!

It's a sad thing even though I know it's no use crying over the spilt milk!

昨日東京から50カラット会議を主催している
志垣豊子さんと田村亮子さん（同姓同名の方です！）
がワイン葡萄の畑に遊びに来てくれました。

は５０代からの挑戦に熱く燃えている方々の
ネットワークです。その道のプロやキャリアを
積んだ方々が多く、女性のネットワークが始まり
ですが、現在は男性の方々も多数参加されて
いるそうです。

ネットワークの中で、やりたい企画があれば
それを出す人がいて、そこに参加したい人達
が集まって行動を起こすという、大人で
品格のあるネットワークで、もう１０何年も
続いているそうです。

韓国までキムチ造りの勉強に行ったりと、
１人ではやれたら良いな、というような
ことも声を掛け合ってやってしまうという
エネルギー溢れる方々のコミュニティです。

そのお二人が私のブドウ畑を訪問してくれました。
アプリコットの香りのするワインになるヴィオニエ
とシャルドネの誘引、それに畑を変えてセミヨンの
剪定を経験されました。

隣の畑のおばあちゃんがふきのとうやら
赤筋大根だのをくれたり、他の畑でも
ふきのとうを取らせてくれたりと、
そんな田舎の付き合いと、気持ちの良い天気
と、早速料理した取れたて野菜の鮮烈な春の
香りを楽しんで頂けました。

I had visitors from Tokyo yesterday.
Ms. Toyoko Sigaki and Ms. Ryoko Tamura of
50 Carat Conference.

50 Carat Conference is a network of
people over 50 consisting of many
professionals and various carriers.
It started with a gathering of women
but it has many male members, too.

It is a net work where a plan is presented
by a person who wants to do something and is carried
out by those who want to do together. It is a very
matured and sophysticated association.

For example, they had a kimmchi-making tour to Korea.
A plan one may not be able to do by oneself, but with
those who want to join, then she would dare to do so with
the poeple join such a plan. What a fantastic gathering.

In my vineyards, they tried the training of young vines of Viogier which makes a wine with apricot aroma and Chardonnay.
They also tried pruning of Semillon vines.

An old farmer's wife gave us butterbur buds and local raddish. In other place, we were invited to pick somebody's butterbur buds which we cooked for lunch.

I hope they enjoyed fine weather, fresh air and fresh bitter spring vegetables.

峰の原のテレマークスキースクール
TMN スキースクールの第10回フェスティバルが
湯っ蔵んどで15日にありました。遠くは山形から
そして地元からも多士済々の方々が50人ほど集まり
15日はテレマークスキーのオリエンテーリング、
とフェスティバル。16日は根子岳登山スキーを
楽しみました。天気がよくてよかったですね。
最近山で遊んで頂いている身としては、身びいきな気持ちに
なります。

オリエンテーリングは、地図を頼りにポイントを
周りながらクイズに答えるというもの。
何と優勝者は10問中9問不正解でペナルティーが27分もついたのに
優勝というつわものでした。

スキーでのオリエンテーリングなんてできる場所は
それほど無いだろうな～などと思いながら。もっと多くの
人もこんな楽しみ方ができればな～などと思いました。

さて、テレフェス特別仕様のバッグと飲物類です。
デザイン、作成ともテレマークスキーヤーの方々です。

There held 10th Telefes. at Yukku-land Spa on Saturday.
TMN Ski School at Minenohara Kogen, Suzaka, Nagano runs
the festival 10 times in a row and around 50 telemark skiiers
joined the event from Yamagata to Suzaka. They enjoyed orienteering and the festvial on 15th and Neko-dake mountain skiing on 16th. The winner of the orienteering missed the 9 of 10 questiones but still he won the game!

There are not so many places that telemark ski orienteering
is held other than here. I wish many more people could join and enjoy such winter sports.

Followings are the bags and drinks with special designs for the
festival. They are made by talented TMN Ski school members.

3月14日メルローを剪定していて、
「涙」を始めて確認しました。
写真はピンボケしてますが、剪定した
枝の先から滴がしたたっているのが見えますね。
これを「涙」といいます。多分、多分というのは
英語ではtear(s)というはずですが、この滴りの
ことを日本語でなんと言うのか本当は知らないのです。
名前はあるとは思うのですが。

樹が水を吸い上げ始めました。

For the first time in the new growing season, I found
the "tears" in Merlot vineyard today March 14.
The picture is not focused clearly but you can see the
water at the edge of the pruned spur. This is called tears in
English but I am not sure how it is called in Japanese. We should have the term for it.

The vines start sucking water from the ground.

ここ数日暖かい日が続いています。
今日も15度近くになったようです。
明日は雨かも？

いよいよ剪定のピッチが上がってきました。
朝から夕方まで剪定、剪定また剪定です。

ワイン葡萄8反分ほどが終わり、あと半分ほど
です。そのうち2反分は去年植えた小さいものなので
実質5反分ちょっと位。

写真はメルローです。
去年は長梢剪定をメインにしましたが、
今年は短梢剪定にして、芽数を少々多めに
残します。夏季枝葉が混んでくる可能性が
ありますが、樹勢がどうなるか見てみます。

We have warm weather these days.It was around
15degree C today. It may be rain tomorrow.

Pruning is going on everyday from morning till
sunset. I have still 0.8ha of winegrapes to be pruned
manually.

The photograph shows my Merlot vineyard. Last year I did
cane pruning but this year I am doing spur pruning to retain more buds to control vigour of the vines. That is my hope but
I am not sure if it is successful or not. Anyway I will try.
The problem of spur pruning in Japan is more dense canopy during
growing season. We will see.
