アンニャのコンサートの後、ティシューペーパー
を使う時、考えることがある。
また、プリンターの印刷には裏が白い
使用済みや印刷し損ねた紙を使う
様になった。　それもこれもタスマニアの
原生林のせいだ。

「タスマニアでは原生林が伐採されています。
そしてその95％が日本向けの輸出で、日本では
ティシューペーパーやコピー用紙にされています」
というのだ。色々検索して調べてみると、
それは事実のようで、何気ない毎日の
物に溢れた日本の生活が、あんなところの
自然破壊に手を貸しているなんてね。

何かこぼして、それをすぐにティシュー何枚かで
ふき取るなんて、とてもできませんよね。

三菱商事はそのイメージの悪さから、そのウッドチップ
の日本向け輸出からは撤退したらしいが、日本の
製紙会社は相変わらずチップの買い付けを行って
いる。あの古紙を使っていない再生紙を作って
いた会社達だ。そういう会社に限って、私たちは
植林事業を行っています、なんていうPRを
している。

「自分の使うものがどこから来たのかを
ふと考える、そうすることで変化がおきるの
です。」というメッセージは今も残っている。

田舎の風景。

農薬散布の為に農協の薬剤調整センター
に農薬を入れに来たSSの車列。
田舎のフェラーリとは昔からよく
使われる表現らしい。実際SSの値段は
驚くほど高い。

After the concert of Anja Light, I started
thinking about some thing when I used tissue
paper. And I started using used paper for
printing. They are all due to Tasmania.

Anja told us that the primeval forests in
Tasmania had been cut everyday in a large
scale and 95% of the wood chip were exported
to Japan to make tissue paper and copy paper.
There some people are living in the top of the
trees to protec forest. I was surprised to have
known it. In our everyday life with so many
things around, a tiny thing is helping to
destroy the nature in an area far from Japan.

I cannot use tissue papers to wipe spilt
coffee.

Some report says that Mitsubishi Co., Ltd.,
a Japanese biggest trading firm stepped aside
from exporting wood chips to Japan from
Tasmania. However, Japanes paper mill companies
are still importing them. They are the companies that
sold recycled papers which they did not use used
paper at all. Such companies have announced that they
have been planting trees there. But they never say
they have cut primeval forest in Tasmania.

When you take something on your hand,
please think about where it comes from.
Then you will start making changes.
This Anja's messeage still remains with me.

A scenary in country side.
Speed Sprayers(SS) are lining up
for their turn to be filled up with
the agricultural spray agent at
the agricultural spary agent distribution
center. These red SS are often called
Ferrari in the farm yard. They are really
expesive, too.

昨日から赤ワイン用の葡萄畑にいる。
今のところ殺虫剤の散布も塗布も
していないので、主幹の周りの草取り等して、
虫が喰い入らないようにしているのだ。

大分新梢が伸びてきているのだが、
シラーズの発芽がばらばらで、しかも
新梢に花房がついていないのが多い。
近隣のワイナリーの人にも、シラーは
房をつけずに収量が大分落ちる、という
話を聞いていた。

近辺の他人の畑の様子から、多分
強剪定すぎるのだろうという思いがあり、
なるべく多くの芽を　20プラス・アルファ/m row
で残すようにしていたのだが、この有様だ。
観察すると、太い枝や長いケーンの出芽率が悪い。
ただ、決定的な法則は見出せない。
これでは今年の収量不足は明らかだ。
一体どうしてしまったのか。日本の気候が
シラーズに会わないのか…？
今年はせっかく美味しいシラーズが
仕込めているのに…。

と、思い当たったのがPBNだ。もしかして、と思い
昔のテキストを探す前にインターネットで検索
してみた。キー・ワードは fruitfulness と
Shiraz。トップでヒットしたのは、
南オーストラリア州研究開発所(SARDI)の
最近の研究レポートだった。

それによると、オーストラリアでも特に
シラーズのPBNが問題になっており、ひどい
場合は60％から70％の減収量となったとある。

原因は色々複合的なようだが、重要なのは
やはり剪定の様だ。このレポートによると
バランスの良い剪定が最も重要で、適当な太さの
枝で、15-20 芽/m row of canopy が目安のようだ。
少なすぎるとPBNの出現率が高く、
多くても問題があるらしい。
もちろん、樹勢、収量、日陰、モリブデン欠乏、
過剰な摘芯、適季の水不足、等が要因でもある。
特にPRDの場合に発現率が高いともある。

さて、PBNと言っても知らない人がほとんど
だろうから、ちょっと説明を。
Primary Bud Necrosis の略なんですが、これでも
何のことかわからないですよね。

実は、葡萄の芽は外からは1個にしか見えなくても
3個の芽からできているのです。横に３つ並んでいて
（写真）真ん中のが主芽（Primary Bud)といい、
両脇のが副芽（Secondary Buds)と言います。

葡萄の開花時期の頃、この主芽の分化が起こって、
翌年の房や葉の子供（原始体）ができるのです。
ただし、房の子供は主に主芽（Primary Bud)にできて、
副芽ではほとんどできないのです。で、春になって
出てくるのはほとんどこの主芽なんですが、何かの
拍子に主芽が死んで出てこないと副芽が発芽するわけです。
遅霜で新梢が死んだり、雹で新梢が傷ついたときなども
副芽が出てきます。　何もしなくても副芽がでてくる
場合があり、巨峰でやる芽かきはこの副芽を取るの
がメインです。

でPBNというのは、この主芽が死んで黒くなる
現象（写真）です。大体満開から10週間以内
に新梢の中で起こっているようです。
葡萄の品種によってもこの発現率は違い、
シラーズのほかにはカベルネ・ソービニオン
やシャルドネでも知られています。

で、原因究明の研究が行われている訳ですが、
上述の状況において発現率が高いという傾向
がわかってきたのです。病気や虱が原因では
無いというのが一般的な様です。

そうかそうか、やはりPBNだったか。で、原因
と考えられる状況との因果関係も深いのか。
では、今年はこれらに気を配りながら来年
の収量アップを目指すことにしよう。
そうそう、それと先生のピーター・ドライも
PBNについて論文を書いていたな、あれも
ひっぱり出して読み直してみよう！

I am in red wine grape vineyard sicne
yesterday. As I have not sprayed or paint
pestcides yet this year, I am clearing
around the trunk so that lavae do not
eat in the trunk.

At this time, new shoots are growing
but Shiraz has very scattered bud burstings
and even worse many new shoots do not have
inflorescence. The neighbouring winery
people told me the other day that Shiraz
tend not to have inflorescence and the
harvest is devastating.

Hearing that, I wondered it might be due
to severe pruning judging from the vineyard
observation of neighbouring vineyards. Thus
I tried to retain more buds this winter at
20 plus /m row level. However, the result is
not so satisfactory. It seems that thicker
canes and longer canes have less bud burst.
It is though not decisive. What happened to
my Shiraz? I may not have enought yield
this year. Isn't the weather condition in Japan
favorable to Shiraz ?

Watching and observing in my vineyard,
I happened to remember PBN. I checked it
in internet before I opened old textbook.
They key words were "fruitfulness" and
"Shiraz". The first hit was the recent report by
South Australian Research and Development
Institute (SARDI)'s report on PBN on cv. Shiraz.

According to it, PBN on Shiraz has been an
big issue in Australia,too. In some cases,
yield is decreaded by 60-70% in the worst case
and it has caused great income loss.

According to the report, the principle cause
is not certain but many issues are associated
with the PBN. It seems that balanced pruing is
more important and target is 15-20 buds/m row
of canopy. Less number of buds causes PBN
severly and more buds is no good, either.
Vigour of the vine, yield of previous year,
shading, molybudenum deficiency, heavy topping
and trimming, unappropriate irrigation all
causes PBN. PRD is reported to induce PBN
than conventional irrigation.

By the way, I have to explain PBN. It is a
short form of Primary Bud Necrosis. Can you imagine
what it is ?

The grape bud is a compound bud consisting of
three buds inside though it looks as if it consited
of only one bud. Three buds are in one line and the
center one is called primary bud and the other two
in the both sides of the primary bud is called secondary
buds. Some called the latter secondary bud or tertialy bud.

At the time of flowering, the primary bud develops and
forms leaf and bunch primordia that produces 6-10
leaves and two bunches respectively. But secondary
buds usually do not have bunch primordia. In spring time,
bud burst is usually primary bud but if primary bud
was dead, secondary bud(s) will burst without or
little bunches.　If the primary bud or new shoot
was damaged by late frost or hale, then secondary buds
will burst but little fruits.

PBN is the symptom that primary bud is dead and
become black inside the compound bud. It is said to
happen within 10 weeks of full flowering. PBN is known
to happen in other cultivars like Cabernet Sauvignon and
Chardonnay to the lesser extent.

The researches have been carried out and
the aforementioned possible causes have been
associated with PBN. It is almost certain
that PBN is not caused by disease or mites.

Mmmmmm.... It was PBN as I thought. I did
not know the cause of course but the I now
understand the association bewteen the PBN and
its possible causes. I will pay careful attention
to them and try to realize good yield next year
onwards. And I have to check Peter Dry's thesis
who is one of my teachers at Adelaid Uni.

今朝本郷のワイン畑で草刈をしていて
ふと気づくと雉のつがいが草むらの
中を歩いて隣のりんご畑に歩いてゆく。

7,8メートルくらいの近さだ。通常この
位の距離だと、羽をばたつかせたりして
かけて逃げてゆくのだが、この2羽は
鷹揚だ。近くで止まるとやや此方に
気を配る様子ではあるが、逃げようとは
しない。

よく見るとりんごの根本にまかれた
藁の束に残っている米をつついている。
どうも朝食に出てきた様だ。人を近くに
見て驚かないのは、よほど人に慣れているか
腹をすかせているかのどちらかだろう。

知りあいのりんご畑で摘果の
お手伝いをしているときも
よく泣き声を聞く。
自然豊かな我が故郷です。

While I was mowing this morning,
I happened to notice a pair of pheasant
walking out of the bush towards the
neighboring apple orchard.

They were just 7 to 8 meters away from me.
Usually they flatter their wings and run
away if people were so close to them. But
these two birds were not afraid of me at
all. They seemed to pay attention to me
but they would not fly away.

They were eating rice left on the
stuck of straws. They may have come
out for breakfast. They were too
accustomed to people or otherwise
too hungry to dare to run away.

I often hear the voice of pheasant even
in other apple orchard near houses.
My home town is so full of mother
nature.

午後６時になると、
時報というか、防災無線なのか
音楽が流れてきます。
最近はちょっと短調気味の
メロディーです。

どこかで聞いたことがあるよ～な、
って思ってたら。
「百々川橋」（どどがわばし）
という曲なんです。
ご当地バンド、水くれトーバンズの曲なんですが、
ああいう風に、ビブラホーンみたいな
楽器で静かに聴くと名曲ですね。

この間のティトカフェ・ワイン会で
Shinobeeさん達が、たいちゃんさんの
ギターをバックにしっとり歌ってくれましたが
やはりいいですね。
「渡良瀬橋」みたいなニュアンスも
あったりして。
あんな、ほとんど誰も知らない
曲を時報に使ってしまうセンスにも
感心です！

かつての「青葉城恋歌」みたいに
はやるんじゃないかな。はやらせましょう。

ところで、これは今日手に入れたマイ箸。
先日アンニャ・ライトのコンサート
のあと、彼女達と一緒におそばを食べた折、
私は何の考えも無く出された割り箸を
割っていたのですが、アンニャ達は
マイ箸がある！といってそれを
取り出したのです。
そんな事、それまで全然思いも
しないで当たり前にしてきたことなので、ちょっと
ショックでした。2,600円と高いので、
買うのに躊躇していたのですが、
売上金が熱帯雨林の保全にも使われるし
と思って購入したものです。

一月ほど前、コンサートの案内をティト
カフェに置きにいって偶々話をした
若い家族のお客さんが、「これ持ってます！」
と言って見せてくれました。その人達は
アンニャのことは知らなかったのですが、
コンサートにも来てくれました。

最近の若い人はやる事が早いな～と
感心したものでした。

Many people may have heard the music
at 6pm from the community broadcasting.
It is a bit of minor melody.

I wondered that I had heard it somewhere.
It is the song called "Dodogawabashi Bridge"
that is a song of the local band named
Mizukure-Tobanz. The music is so nice
especially when it is played by such a
quite instrument as bivrahorn rather
than big sound or in rock'n roll.

Shinobee san sang the song with Taichan's
guitar which is still lingering. It was
good. I thought it had nuance of famous
"Watarasebashi", a big hit in 90s.

In addition, it is really surprising that
such a song that almost nobody knows was employed for
the official time broadcasting. I pay respect to
those who made the decision.

I expect that the music will become popular
like "Aobajo Koiuta" , a big hit long time
ago originally became popular locally in
Sendai and became a big hit throuout Japan.
Let's make it a popular in Japan!

By the ay, the picture is My Hashi,
a pair of portable chopsticks I just
got today!　I thought I wanted ones when
Anja took it out when we ate soba noodle
the other day after her concert.

As I have never imagined such portable
chopsticks before, it was a shock to me.
Also as itcost 2,600 Yen, I was a little bit
hesitant to buy. I decide to have one
pair because the money is
used to protect tropical rainforest.

I met a young family at Tito Cafe
around one month ago when I was
introducing Anja's concert. They had
same chopsticks and showed me when we
had chat about concert. They even did
not know Anja Light. I was very much
impressed at such people and thought
that young people these days were
quite ahead of us.

午後大分風が強く、巨峰の畑では
枝が風邪にたたきつけられたりして
新梢にキズがついたり、枝や
新梢が折れたりしている。
誘引のし直しをよぎなくされる。
房にダメージが出ているので
今年は葡萄の出来が少々思い
やられる。明日は大雨洪水注意報
が出ている。おかしな天気だ。

It was a windy day. In the
Kyoho vineyard, branches are blown
and many new shoots were damaged.
Some were broken, many baby bunches
were damaged,too. So I've
got to train branches again.
The harvest isvery much worrying.
Heavy rain and flood are expected
tomorrow. Funny weather.

午前中は新しい畑で
針金に手を加えて
アンカーワイヤーを作り、
それを設置。さらに肝心の
フルーティングワイヤを張り
シメラーで引っ張る。
ここまでやればひと段落。
あとは、苗木の支柱を立て
グロガードをつければ
草刈と防除だけ。

In the morning, I made anchor wire
and installed them to the post and
anchor. Then I installed fruiting
wires which was the main part of
the vineyard development. On completion
of fruiting wire, there is not so many
things to do other than vine support
and grogurard installation, mowing and
spraying.
