いつもお世話になっている
福ちゃん農園にお邪魔したら
黄金桃の荷造りと出荷の真っ最中
でした。
完熟したのを朝取り当日出荷
しています。

「おうごんとう」って読むんですが
知ってますか？
飴じゃないんです。桃なんですが、
黄金色の果肉が固くて冷蔵庫で保存すれば
新聞紙に包んで1ヶ月はもつそうです。

シャキシャキした桃らしからぬ食感です。
うまいです。
須坂の隠れた「うまいもん」ですね。
9月の第一週くらいまで注文受けられる
ようです。

朝採り当日出荷は、私の巨峰も同じです。
早朝に収穫して当日中に出荷しています。
ただし、JA分は翌朝出荷になります。
今年の贈答用はもう少し先ですが、
今日から巨峰をとり始めました。
ほんの少しですが。
明日からJAへの出荷が始まるからです。

開花期の低温のせいで、今年は
全体的に小さめの房が多いです。
また、お盆からの連日の雨の為
色づきも遅れています。ただ、小房
になったおかげで私の畑の葡萄は結構
色が乗っています。
いよいよ収穫シーズンです。

I visited Fuku-chan Farm today. They
are busy packing and shipping Ogonto
fruit (Golden Peach). They pick the fruit
early in the morining and ship them
within the same day.

The fruit is called Ogontoh. Do you know
it? It is a kind of peach but the fruit is
solid and you can keep it in the refregerator
for one month by wrapping one with newspaper.

It must be a secret fruit in Suzaka. They can
accept orders by the end of first week of

I started picking my kyoho grapes today for
shipment to JA. I will pick up gift the grapes
for gift a bit later. For gift or direct
mail order, I pick the fruit early in the
morning and ship them within the day. So
many people can enjoy the fresh fruit
as soon as the following day.

Due to the low temperature at the flowering
time, the size of grape is rather small this
year. The colour of the grapes is not very black
yet because of much rain recently. However,
thanks to the samller size of the grape
the colour is darker in my vineyards.

Now the harvest season has just begun.

昨日の予報では北信地方の
今日午前の降水確率は100％だった
のですが、朝の曇りから良い
天気になりました。

夕刻になって雨になり、
今はまた結構降っています。
これだけ雨が多いと
やはり葡萄にも影響があります。
皮も食べられるナガノパープル
に裂果が出ているようです。
巨峰にもその兆候が出ています。

今日ワイン葡萄畑を廻ったら
やはり粒がかなり水を吸って
とうもろこしのように
ぎゅうぎゅうに窮屈そうで、
ところどころ裂果している
房も見えます。
粒が裂けるとそこから
病気になったり、かなぶん
やら蜂やらの虫が集まって
果実を傷つけます。

これから大事な季節
雨が早く終わってくれることを
願います。

It was supposed to be rainy thin
morning according to yesterday's
weather forecast. It was cloudy
this morning and it turned to be
fine and warm during day.

It started raining in the evening
and it is raining pretty hard now.
Such rain causes damages to the grapes.
Somebody said that Nagano Purple, a new
grape and the whole berry including skin
can be eaten, shows spliting. I found
some Kyoho bunches have spliting, too.

While I went through all the wine grape
vineyards today, I found some compact bunches
looked so tight like a corn and some berries
had spliting. Once berry breaks, it attracts
diesease and insects which damage to the
berries.

It is very much important from now on
for the grapes, I pray for no more rain.

今日も午後から雨になった。
今年は雨が多い。
農協の巨峰出荷総会が
今日雨の中行われた。
どういう訳か今年は
だるまの目入れ式が
行われた。思わず、
今年は神頼みかと
思ってしまった。

今年の出荷は8月31日になっているが
去年の初日に比べて色つきが今一で
まだ出せないという農家が多い。
去年は初日大量に出荷されたが、
今年はそういうわけにはいかなそうだ。

7月中旬からの高温と8月中旬
からの多雨で、色づきが
よくないのだ。また、雨のせいで
食味も落ちている。
朝夕の気温が下がってきたのは良いのだが、
まだ8月。秋らしくなるには早すぎる。

私のところではもう少し
後になってから採ろうと思う。

It was rainy again in the afternoon.
We have more rain this year than we did last year.
A shipping meeting was held for JA members.
Somehow we had Daruma ceremony this year whereby
we paint single eye on the Daruma doll for praying
good and lucrative harvest this year. We did not
have such a ceremony until last year. Maybe we
have to pray and depend on Gods this year.

First shipping date was set on August 31 this year.
However, many growers say they cannot ship their grapes
because of the insufficient color on the grapes.
The situation was very much different from that of last
year when there were so many cases on the fist day.

Because of the high temperature since mid July
and much rain since mid August, the grapes have not
accumulated enough colour. The taste tends to be
deteriorated by continuing rain. We have lower
temperature in the evening and in the morning which
is good but we are still in August and the autumn is
too early to come yet.

I have decided to harvest Kyoho grapes for gift
on later date.

20年ほど前一緒に仕事をしていた
方達が東京方面から訪ねてくれました。
当時の上司だったり、親しくして頂いて
いた方達です。その会社を辞めてからも
東京やシンガポールなどで会う機会が
ありましたが、皆さん定年を迎えられて
も忙しく活躍されています。

とても自分たちが60才を越えているとは
信じていない人達で、
まだもっと若かった時の懐かしい話
等で盛り上がりました。

年の話では50歳と60歳でもたいした
違いは無いではないかと、五十歩百歩を
もじって50歩60歩だという話。

昨日は私の葡萄畑を案内してから
峰の原に泊まってワインを飲んでもらい
今日は、私も初めての米子瀑布に行きました。
12キロの山道を車で登り、駐車場から約20分の
山歩き。展望地点からは不動滝と権現滝が
見渡せます。茶屋から不動滝の滝つぼ付近へは
ほんの5分ほど。遠目からの雄大な滝を、下から
見上げると風に水が舞っています。
茶屋で見た秋や冬の滝の様子もまた
見事です。

足が痛かったり息が上がって休んでいた
一行も『行った方がいい』という言葉に
滝壷まで足を伸ばし『行ってよかった』と
感激していました。

行き着くのに少々苦労があるからありがたさが
増し、印象も深いものになるようです。
滝のそばまで車で行けたら便利でしょうが、
秘境の滝は秘境にあってこその
良さと感動がありますね。

また、元気な友人が来たら訪ねたいと思います。

My old friends whom I had worked with
about twenty years ago came to visit me
from Tokyo area. They were my seniors at
the company then. I met them from time
to time in Tokyo or Singapore. They all
retired from their companies but they
are still busy and working in new
companies.

They would not think they are already
over sixty and we talked a lot about
the things that we had experienced when we
had been much younger.

Fifty years old (myself) seems much
younger for sixty years old people but
the difference as the number makes little
difference. A Japanese proverb says fifty
steps and one hundred makes no difference.
Therefore we call fifty steps and sixty steps
makes little difference.

I took them to my vineyards yesterday and
stayed together in Menenohara drinking my
wines. Today we went to up to YONAGO grand falls
which is the first experinece even for me.

After 12km of drive along the Yonaga river
into the mountains, we walked up a path to the
falls for about 20 minutes. From the viewpoint,
we can see two waterfalls, Hudou-taki fall and
Gongen-taki fall. The view was ausome. The we
walked to the foot of the Hudou-taki fall.
When we looked up the fall, the water was blown
by the wind and became splash in the air.
The falls in autumn and winter in the picture
were beautiful, too.

Those friends complaining about the
footache and tiredness were encouraged
to go and watch the fall from the foot of
the fall decided to go and were touched and
enjoyed the views very much. They also found
it worth while going there.

It is accompanied with a bit of pain to reach
the falls which may make the tour and the view
more impressive. If we went to the closer location
by car, it would be much easier. But such
difficult-to-visit falls should stay in such a
remote and difficult location to bring us greater
joy and impression.

Next time when I have physically stronger visitors,
I am sure to take them here.

22日日から３日間麻布十番納涼祭り
「おらがくに自慢」に出店して来ました。
あいにく２日目と３日目が雨にたたられ
ましたが、押し合いへしあいの
人出はものすごかったです。

須坂の銀座通りほどの狭い通りの
両側に出店が何十店舗も並び、その間を
一説に３日間で６０万人という人が
行き交います。

そんな状況の中、顔を見に来てくれたり
お昼やおやつに飲物を差し入れしてくれた友人知人の
皆様。またワインやシードル、ジュースを買って
頂いた方々、励ましていただいた方々に
心よりお礼申し上げます。
おかげで、雰囲気を楽しむことができました。

食べながら飲める缶ビールやグラス売りの
ワインやジュース、それに串にさした牛肉
や焼き魚（干物）にホタテ、焼き鳥、
きりたんぽなどが売れ筋の様で、
ボトル売りの私のワインは大苦戦です。
一緒に行った須坂商業高校の商品販売
グループも、そのような商品を持たないので
苦戦を強いられていました。

ガソリン代、高速代、宿泊代などを自己負担して
行くなんて馬鹿げている、
などと行く前から、鋭い指摘をする方も何人か
いて、蓋を開けてみるとそういう指摘が
当っていた面もありました。この経験を
プラスに生かしてゆきたいものです。

須坂市関係での売れ筋は定番のおやき以外
では『八丁きゅうり』と
『村山早生ごぼう』の様で、この二つは
飛ぶように売れていて、さすがに
売れるものと売り方を見ていた去年の
経験が存分に生かされている様でした。
まさかごぼうがあんなに売れるとは、と
正直驚きでした。試食用の煮物が
もっとあればいくらでも売れそうな
勢いでした。

それにしても参加の皆さんご苦労様でした。
3日間の立ち販売の後、帰宅したのは本日早朝でした。

I have returned from Azabu Juuban
Summer Festival Boasts of My Villages
event held durin Aug 22 -24 for three
days in a row. We had heavy rain on second
and third day but were surprised at the
number of people passing by despite of
the rain.

It is said that about six hundred thousands of
people are coming to the narrow street of
Azabu Juuban near Roppongi. The streests are
covered with the people and the vendors' small
shops.

I thank you very much to those who came to
see me under such a bad weather,those who
bring me lunch box and snacks, and those who
bought my wines, cidres and juices. Thanks to
you all I enjoyed participating the event.

What sold most in general seem to be food and beverages
which one can eat and dring while walking and
watching shops such as beer, glass wines and juices,
skewed meat, dried sea dood, skewed chickens,
kiritanpo, etc. On the other hand, bottles wines
and the expensive goods are not the easy target
of the people. Therefore the students7 shop run
by students from Suzaka High Schoold of Commerce
struggled to sell their goods, too.

Some people had indicated that I should not
participate in such an event by paying transportation,
accomodation, etc by myself. These advices were not
quite wrong. I have to make use of such an experience
for the future.

What sold most among the products from Suzaka were,
except for the unbeatable Oyaki, Hatcho Kyuri
cucumber and the Murayama early burdock. They sold
so quickly to our astonishment. I realized that last
year's experiences were taken into consideration
for such goods selection among the people who
were able to share the information. I wonder
why such information were not shared among the
new participants to the event?

Any how, it was a hard job to the all. We returned home
early morning today after three days standing sales.
