あまりに暖かくて、
着ている服を何枚も
脱いで剪定してました。
明日も２０度を超えて
２２度くらいになるようです。

オオイヌノフグリ（変な名前！）
が無数に咲いて青いじゅうたんが
そこここに出現してます。

It was so warm today that I
had to take off clothes to do
pruning. It will be very warm
tomorrow again and it will reach
around 22 degree C.

Small blue flowers with very funny
Japanese name are in full bloom
and it looks as if they were
blue carpet in the field.

今朝は激しい雨、
やがて空は暗く、
雪が混じり積もり初めて
まもなく霰というか雹が
混じった。
その後また雨となり、雷も鳴っている
午前中の農作業は当然中止。
寒冷前線が通過したらしい。
おかげで溜まっていた
ペーパーワークが少し済んだ。
１０時頃からは良い天気で
ぽかぽかと春本番の
暖かさ。

葡萄の剪定は
続いているが、切り口から
水がしみだしてくる。
雨の後のせいか、勢いが良い。

今週畑には研修生が来ているが、
明後日からは手助けを一人
要請した。

It rained hard this morning.
The sky turned very dark and
it started snowing. Suddenly the hale
started falling just for a while and
it turned to rain again. I could here
the thunder, too. I was not able to
go out for work in the vineyard.
Thanks to the storm like weather
I did some paper work for the
week.

The weather turned to be very fine
at around 10 am and the sun shines
like Spring and it got very warm.

The pruning is going on in the
afternoon. The water has already
started running from the cut.
The vines root got started working
to absorb water from the ground.
After the weather like this morning,
it ran so much that the vines under
the cuts got wet easily.

I asked my nephew to help me out
in the vineyard starting from
this week in addition to one
high school student trainee.

昔懐かしい表現ですが。
３月１４日から１５日にかけて
峰の原に５０名ほどの
テレマークスキーヤーが
集った。１４日夜は須坂温泉で
同窓会といも言うべき宴会も
執り行われた。地元から
全国からテレマークスキーヤーが
集まったわけだ。
今年で１１回目となる。

指導員の望月さんの
主催するTMNスキースクール
の年次総会的な集い。
須坂では数少ない日本
唯一の催し。
日本におけるテレマークスキー
のメッカな訳です。

この自然とその人、そして
仲間を愛する心優しき
自然派の大人の集まり。
１５日は皆さんで根子岳
ツアーです。
来年は私も参加できるかな。

Mecca, such a good old expression.
Around 50 telemark skiers gathered
at Minenohara Kogen. There held a party
at Suzaka Onsen in the evening on March 14.
This was the 11th gathering event with the
people from all over Japan.

It was like a General Yearly Gathering
of TMN Ski School run by Mr. Takashi
Mochizuki who is the only certified
telemark ski coach by Norway. A unique
event available only in Suzaka in Japan.
As such, we can call it a Mecca in Japan
for telemark skiers.

It is a gathering of mature people who
love him, the nature and their friend-
skiers. They enjoyed the tour to the
Neko-dake mountain all together.
I wish to join them next year!

いよいよ剪定も佳境に
入ってきた。大分暖かく
葡萄の芽も半月ほどは
進んでいるのか、巨峰の芽は
角ばってきて、ワイン葡萄の
芽もやわらかくなってきている。

これから誘引、別名枝付け
という作業なのだが、
発芽に近くなるとワイヤに軽く
ぶつけただけで芽が飛んで
しまうようになる。
早く剪定をを終わらせて
枝つけ作業に入らねば。

追われる様な急がしさから
この春は始まりそうだ。

長島敏行さんと書いたが
永島敏行さんの間違いでした。
一字間違っておりました。

The pruning is now its
peak time. Because of the
warm weather, it seems that
grape buds seem to move earlier
by half a month. Kyoho buds are
getting shaper and the winegrape
buds get softened.

Training (wrapping canes around the
fruiting wire) is to start shortly.
If this operation was done when the
buds get softened, such buds are easily
removed from the cane by mere hit to the
wire. As such I have to finish pruning
as soon as possible and start training
soon.

I will start this Spring very busy
with such a hurry.

PS I made a typo yesterday of
Mr. Toshiyuki Nagashima, a Chinese
character of Naga was wrong.
Sorry for Mr. Nagashima.

といっても、JAの青年部が
俳優の長島敏行氏を招いてお話を
してもらったということ。どんな話を
するのかと思って出かけていった。

長島さんは一昨年、長野市であった
グリーンツーリズム関係のシンポジウム
でも講演があって、余り印象がなかったの
だが、今回も余り印象に残る話では
なかった。ただ、彼の場合は、自らも
周囲を巻き込んで作物を作り、
農業に関する情報発信を行い、
農業の惨憺たる状況（そういう表現は
していませんが）に接して、東京で
農作物を販売する機会を提供してくれて
いるという、農業応援団であり、
その点はありがたい存在だと感謝している。

そんな中で、農家サイドからは余り聞かれない
発言が一つあった。私もかねがね感じて
いたことなので、へ～と思ったのだが。
それは、農業は生業として以上のものを
求められていながらも、それの対価が
生産物に載せられていないということだ。
これをどういう形で訴求してゆくのか
に関しては具体的アイデアは誰も提案
していない、おそらくあと15年くらいして
農業をやる人がいなくなった時に、
今の長野県が課している森林税みたいな
形になってゆくのではないかと、
私は思っているのだが。

それは、農業を始めたい人向けの本には
昔からず～と書かれていることなのだが、
「農業は田畑を守ることで、自然、景観や
環境,そして伝統を守ってきた。そして、住民や
都市からの訪問者に癒しや気分転換の
機会や環境を提供する」ということ。

なぜ、純粋な経済活動の事業主としての
責任を云々されることに加えて、加重な社会的
意義を守ることを強要されるのか。
それは良しとしても、何故それに対する対価
が考慮されないのか。

朱鷺を守ろう、自然に帰しても生きられるように
えさが食べられるように農薬は使わずに、また
不耕起で田を作ろう、と農家に呼びかけたり
要請するのは簡単だが、そのために米価が
上がっても良しとする消費者は居るのか？
そうすることで手間やコストは確実に
上がるのだ。

その辺の矛盾を長島さんも感じているのだろうな。
私も、なるべくなら自然農法的なやり方で
作物を作りたい。その方法が確立されていたら
そうしたいと多くの農家は思っている。
そうできないのは、そうされると困る
肥料や農薬の製造会社とその販売者が
いるからなのか、それともそれでは
生計が立つほどの収入が望めない
現実があるからなのか。食べるものを作っている
人が食べてゆけない。これは
とてもおかしいことだ。

A lecture was given by a famous
movie actor Toshiyuki Nagashima
which was organaized by the local
agricultural cooperative. I was
curious about what he was going
to talk.

Mr. Nagashima delivered another lecture
two years ago in Nagano at the Green
Tourism Symposium which was not
so much impressive to me. This time
again his talk was not so much
interesting. Any how it is very much
grateful that he grows rice and veges
by himself inviting so many non farmers,
introduces many agricultural activities
throughout Japan, and provides opportunities
for many farmers to connect to the consumers
directly. He may have noticed that the current
situation sorrounding agriculture is so
hard. He is a good supporter of the farmers.

However, I noticed that he mentioned about
the uncommon issue about agriculture. That is
one of the things that I have felt for some
time. He said that the agricultural produce
did not realize the consideration on what
the agriculture has been imposed not like
other industry sectors. Nobody so far has
porposed an idea how to add this
consideration on the selling price of
agricultural produces. To my idea,
maybe in fifteen year from now when
nobody would be in agriculture a tax
will be levied just as the forest tax
today that was in practice today in
Nagano Prefecture as a local tax.

That issue has been long mentioned in
guide books for entrants farmers. That is
agriculture is very important for the
people's life as it protects nature, landscapes,
environment and traditions
by proctecting inherited
farm lands and they provides with the
people especially from cities opportunities
for refreshing and healing.

Why is the agriculture demanded as a priori
such important issues in addition to the
responsibility of an individual business
person. That kind of extra responsibilities
might be accepted by nature by many of the
farmers but still then what is the consideration
to it?

Many people may think it good to protect
Japanese crested ibis birds. Let's make the
environment for the birds to be fed in the nature.
Let's not spray chemicals or let's keep water
in the rice paddie so that the birds can find
its foods. That is all right. But how many peole
can accept the rice price increase ? The labor
and the cost will actually increase by doing
so.

Mr.Nagashima may have noticed that kind of
inconsistency. I prefer rather natural farming
to so-called conventional farming. There should be
many farmers sharing the same idea only if
such technique is established. Why is it not
possible or why are there only very limited
farmers adopting such system? Is it because
there are so many chemical and fertilizer producers
and sellers ? Or is it because that the farmers
cannot live on such system ?
Those who makes food cannot live on what he/she
produces.That is very funny and illogical,
I think.
