14日から巨峰の収穫を始める。
作業場は準備万端整えたつもり
でも、色々とあれが無い、これを
用意しなくてはと、やはり
あわただしい。

明日はどれくらい取れるだろうか。
そして、注文を頂いたお客様の
期待にこたえられるまでに
美味しくなっているだろうか
と、いろいろと不安な初日前夜
です。

I will start harvesting Kyoho
grape from tomorrow. I thought
I had prepared everything for
harvesting, packing and shipping
but still I found something missing
and something to prepare more.
A kind of busy day today.

As the harvest was delayed so
long, I am axious how many
bunches I can pick tomorrow and
wonder if the grapes would satisfy the
customers or not.

ドイツから日本周りで
オーストラリアに帰る
知人夫妻が須坂に寄ってくれた。
須坂泊。

今朝小布施を案内した。
私もちょっとした水が脇を
流れている「栗の小径」を歩くのは
初めて。すれ違った観光客が
あの界隈の雰囲気をいたく
気に入った様子で
「善光寺は2時間じゃなくて
1時間でいいから小布施を2時間
にすればいいのにね」と話していた。

土曜日のこととて
朝から大勢の人出、お店の人たちの
対応も慣れたものでスマートだね。

お昼は須坂に戻って手打ち蕎麦。
雨の日はことのほか静かな街中。
須坂は静かな街でいいんじゃないのか。
横町の小路などは手を入れなくても
雰囲気がある。落ち着ける喫茶店など
あればとは思うけどね。

ちょっとした発見が散らばっている。
お蕎麦やさんにしてもね。
こんなバーもあったりして。

My friend couple visited me
on their way back home to
Australia after their trip
to Germany. They stayed
at a samll inn in Suzaka
yesterday.

I took them to Obuse this
morning. We visited Chestnut
Path with a small creek
for the first time. The other
visitors passing by chatted that
their tour should have taken
two hours in Obuse instead of
two hours in Zenkoji. They
seemingly loved the atmospher
around the corner.

There were already many tourists
in Obuse and the shopkeepers
seemed very good at handling them.

We returned to Suzaka for lunch and
visited a hand made soba restarurant.
Down town Suzaka was very quiet especially
in the rain like today. Ithink this
serenity fits Suzaka very
much. There are many nice narrow streets
like one in Yokomachi area.
A nice relaxing coffee shop would make
it perfect for strangers.

There are many small nice findings
in town including that handmade soba
restaurant as well as a bar like this.

りんご畑の片隅を借りて
8月に植えたあの野菜。
ようやく花が咲き始めた。

雄花を切り取って雌花に
人工授粉。雌しべに均等
につけないと変形してしまう。
りんごも同じで、ちょっと形
がいびつなのは受粉が雌しべ
に均等になされなかったもの
なのです。そういうりんごは
切ってみると種が均等に
入っていませんね。

ですから注意して
受粉させます。訪花昆虫
による受粉も可能ですが
受粉の確度を高めるために
やる作業。
そうして今度は袋掛け。
何でもつくる
のには手がかかるのです。

The vegetable that I planted
in August in a corner of
rented apple orchard has
started flowering.

I remove a male flower and
put it to the female flower
for pollenation. I have to put
the pollen to the pistils evenly
otherwise the final produce
will be deformed. You may have
seen a defromed apple which is not
evely round. That deformation is
made by such uneven pollenation.
When cut, the apple does not
have seeds evenly scattered.

So I have to pay attention
when doing pollenation by hand.
Of course the insects can do it
but in order to ensure the pollenation
we need to do it by hand.　Then I have
to wrap baby vege one by one.
Any vegetable
need such minute care somehow.

今日畑で灌水をしていたら
（一箇所だけ灌水をしなければ
ならない畑がある）携帯に
電話。　+1 で始まる番号から
だった。

アメリカからの電話。
昨日楠さんのワインを飲みました。
とても香りが高く美味しかった。
一緒に飲んだワインに詳しい友人も
褒めていた。カリフォルニアの
ソーヴィニオン・ブランクにもいいのが
あるが、それとはスタイルは違うが
とてもよかった。

という物だった。
それを言うためにわざわざ
アメリカから電話を下さるとは。
時差があるのに。
おかげで、
今日一日いい気分だった。
ありがとうございます。

家に帰ると、15年ほどぶりだろうか、
昔の同僚からもメールが入っていた。
懐かしくなりウェブで探したら
みつかったと。

I received a call to may mobile
phone when I was in the vineyard
irrigating my vines. There is a
vineyard I have to do so
with a pump and hose. The call showed
the number starting with +1.

It was an overseas call from USA saying
that he drank my wine Semillon/Sauvignon Blanc
yesterday with his friend at a Japanese
restaurant. My wine had very good fragrance
and the tasted very good. They both liked it
and valued very high. They liked good Californian
SB but they liked mine very much
which was in a differenct style.

He called me at my morning time
all the way from USA onlt to say
that.

I was very happy to hear that and
felt great the rest of the day today.

On my return home, I found a e-mail
from a colleague who worked at the
same company around 15 years ago.
She searched my name on the web
and found a simlar one. What made
her felt sure was my nickname together
with may family name.
This kind of thing happens.

ここのところの晴天続きで
巨峰が大分持ち直してきた。
ワイン葡萄の状況も良さそうだ。
巨峰は来週から収穫を始めようと
思う。平年より2週間遅れとなる。
あれだけ天気が悪かったのだから
2週間程度遅れるのは仕方がない
と考えるべきだろうな。

パープルはいよいよ明日からJAへの
出荷が始まる。糖度19度以上でないと
本当のパープルの美味しさが
出ないといわれているが、
私の畑のは既に20度、21度を越えて
いる。収穫は積算温度が2000度を
越える11日以降にするつもり。
うまいんだなこれが！

Thanks to the fine and dry weather
recently, the kyoho grapes have shown
fast recovery from the early delayed
ripening. Winegrapes are also doing
better now.

I decided to start harvest Kyoho
next week. This two week delay than
normal year should be acceptable after
such bad weather through the summer.

Nagano Purple shipment to local JA
will start tomorrow. The grape is said
to taste excellent when the sugar level
reaches 19 degree Brix. The grapes in
my vineyard have reached over 20 or 21
degree Brix already. Yet I will start
my harvest only after Septemeber 11 when
the accumulated temperature reaches 2000
degree. They really taste good!
