After the tasting at Torbreck, we checked in
at a motel in Barossa Valley and prepared
to go to today's main event, dinner.
But we had to drop by to purchase some
bottles of wines. We went to Tanund Bottle
Shop in Tanunda. Drew-san said this shop was
very good. It looked just an ordinary rural
bottle shop or rater simple appearance of single
story house. The entrance was narrow and it had
a few rooms inside. But to my surprise, they had
comprehensive range of wines not only from
Australia but from France and Spain.

I found many bottles which I had heard of but
had never seen. They seemed to me big and
gutsy style of wines for the place but any how there
were too many to choose one or two
bottles for take out. I also found many back vintages
of Grange and Hill of Grace. This bottle shope held
fortune. It was really beyond my expectation.
What a great bottle shop. It was the place in Barossa
Valley!

Jakuhu is a picture bookdof cherry blossoms
edited by the order of local lord during
Edo Era. Over 200 cherry blossoms are listed
with colored drawings but some of them are
said to be imaginaries.

A tour of viewing cherry blossoms and
dogtooth violets was planned in Inoue area
within Suzaka city and I joined them despite
of the unexpected snowfall.

Most of 700 to 800 cherry trees there have been planted
since 30 years ago and there said 40 to 50 kinds
of cherry trees. Because of the wide range of the
varieties, some blossoms were late or some were still buds
for today.

The Garyu Park is famous for cherry blossoms in Suzaka
which is selected one of the best 100 cherry blossoms
in Japan. But here in Inoue area, as the people have
tried to plant cherry trees as many as in Jakuhu, it
is so to speak Hill of Jakuhu, I believe.
Tomorrow a spring festival at local Jyounji temple
which has some special cherry trees, too is planned
and many people are expected to come. But how many
of them actually come to enjoy these cherry
blossoms in a little bit distance.

Not only cherry blosoms but also dogtooth violets
are famous on the same hill of cherry trees.
Many flowers are seen together. Because of the
snow, the fargile timid purple colored flowers look
more discreet than usual.

After the trecking, we had lunch at local resident's
house as friends. Mr. and Mrs. Takemae who has proposed
this excursion welcomed us and prepared with so many
cuisines of local delights. Other house wives helped
to prepare these tasteful dishes. The tour members were so
happy with them and forget about the snow and the cold
during the trecking.

Special thanks to Mr. Nakamura who told us very
interesting stories about area, cherry blossoms and
the wild flowers in cold weather. It was a very precious
experience and good adventure in Suzaka.

The tour was organized as a part of the activities
of Suzaka Green Tourism study group which plans a
miso making event on 18th at the Takemae's.

It seems that it gets cold everywhere
throughout Japan now. The pictures of
cherry blossoms covere with snow
are shown on web and news.

Here in North part of Shinshu,
Suzaka, the rain in the evening
turned into snow at night. Although
it is very wet and rain like snow
but still it covers the cars and
the grass in the farm yard.

As the grapes have not bud burst
yet, the frost is not a big problem
yet. Let's cross fingers for better
weather later. I found bees laying
weakly in the vineyards. Pollination
for apricot, cherry and apples may
have some influence. I do not remember
snow fall after mid April.

We had wintery cold north wind
today and it freezed me in the
late afternoon. I have all the way finished
pruning somehow. There remain some more to
do but I was lucky enough to have finihsed
wrapping the canes around the wire, too.

Now on the last day of trainning at
Noon Winery. Drew-san offered me to go
together to Barossa Valley the following day to
taste some wines and dine at a restaurant
there. What a chance! I have no reason not to
accept such an offer. I was happy to have such
an experience.

Our meeting was set at Torbreck cellar door
at 5pm next day. Most of cellar doors close
at 4 or 5 pm but it is open until 6pm.
As I arrived earlier, I started tasting wines
before Drew san and Keith from Alaska came in.

I started tasting from white and did most of available
wines including the flagship Runring. Rose Mataro was
my first experience. It was OK but not really my
taste. Three kinds of white wines are really good.
The reds are either single variety of blends of
two to three varieties including viognier.
The nuance of the red wines are gentle for Barossa wines.
The blending of viognier to reds may induce such
soft sensation.

I felt a bit big time difference between the flavour
and the texture in Grenache wine.
Drew san tasted with affirmative uhn
and Kieth followed him with 'right' or
nodding. They were good wines indeed in
any event. They grow grapes without irrigation
which is not common in Barossa Valley.

I bought Viognier Marssane Roussanne (white)
and THE CELTS (shiraz).
