ティトカフェのれいこチャンが大阪へ帰って
しまうということで、今日は彼女の
お別れ会兼、お誕生会になり、多くの
人が集まりました。　若い沢山の才能が
いて、すごいことです。この力を生かさなきゃ！

とても気落ちの良い若者が沢山いて、素晴らしい資産
に溢れた街です。　この人達が前面に出たら須坂は
すごいことになりそうです。
(ちょっと私のコメントは年寄りくさいな～）

やはり白ワインの品種より
芽吹きが遅いですね。

Reiko-chan of Tito cafe will return to
Osaka so we had her farewll and her birthday party.
Many young talent gathered for her. It was nice
to see all those people.

Suzaka is full of good assets of these young people who
are not bound by the old traditions but love Suzaka. This town will become a wonderful city with these people.

The picture shows today's Merlot. The white varieties bud burst is ealier than red varieties like Merlot.

夏の様な暑い日が大分続いて
いて、今日も畑では顔がひりひり
するほど。

巨峰の種枝の誘引をしてなかったので、
芽掻きをやりながら誘引も行う。
この時季、芽はとてももろく、触った
位でポロッと落ちてしまうので
注意が必要。いっそのこと新梢の
誘引ができるまで放っておいても良いの
だが、房きり前に強風が吹くと枝が
あおられて釣り糸の「お祭り」状態に
なるので、やるにこしたことはない。

枝の先端の芽の伸びは早いが、
枝によって発芽はまだらだ。
気候が暑かったり寒かったりの
まだら模様のせいかも知れない。
また、副芽の発芽が多いように
感ずるのは気のせいか。

房きりが始まるまであと3週間ほどだろうか。
市役所のアグリサポートの申し込みも
5月25日位からと、やや早目のスタート
を予想する農家が多いようだ。

私も房きりまでに、去年の畑のワイヤ張りに、
今年の畑の、柱の打ち込みとワイヤ張り等、
終わらせなければならない仕事が
大分残っている。

夕刻の明覚山（大谷の畑から）
みどり色が大分ぽってりと
して生き生きとしてきましたね。

It was very warm today and my cheeks
ached with the sun in the vineyard again.

I did disbudding of Kyoho while training canes
on which new shoots had already started growing.
The buds are very fragile at this moment and
would fall easily with just a touch by fingers.
I may be able to leave the canes untrained until
new shoots tarining. However, strong wind would
make them tangled as fishing thread so it is
much better to train than doing nothing.

It seems that top buds are growing very fast but other
buds are just so so. It may be because of the recent
funny weather of summer heat and spring cold. Many of
secondary buds seem bursiting this year.

Bunch trimming will start in almost three weeks time.
I hear that many farmers asked agri supporters (farm
hands) on around May 25 which is earlier than last year.

By the start of bunch trimming, I will have to finish
wiring in the last year's vineyard, piling of poles
and wiring in the this year's vineyard, etc. There are
still lots to do.

seen from Oya vineyard near sunset.
The green colour gets thicker
and the mountain looks lively.

自然のものであれ、栽培したものであれ、
本当に旬なものを新鮮なままに食べる田舎の
農家の食事を、何と贅沢なんだと感心したのが
2年ほど前の冬のこと。

それがきっかけなのか、葡萄しか作っていなかった
私が、今年はジャガイモを植えたり、瓜を作ろう
としている。畑に自生しているにらやのびろも
食べている。そばの畑では、落ちた種が芽を出して
きたので、それを食べるとおいしい。
今はスプラウトより大きいのだが、やわらかくて
いける。今度おひたしにでもしてみよう。

今日はシャルドネ畑の隣のおじさんから
たらの芽とエシャロットを貰った。エシャロットと呼ぶ
人が多いが、小さなたまねぎの様な本物のエシャロット
ではなく、のびろをスマートにしたような野菜だ。

当然たらの芽は天ぷらに、エシャロットは玉の部分は
マヨネーズであえてビールのつまみに、葉の部分は
味噌汁にとも思ったが、刻んで天ぷらにして食べた。
当然満腹です。毎日の食生活は貧相なものだが、
季節の美味しいものがとても身近です。

美味しい葡萄を作るため、私の畑は草生栽培です。
他の畑より草丈が高くなってから草刈をして、
有機質を土に返します。草刈の最中から、沢山の鳥が
地面に落ちたご馳走を食べに集まってきます。

今日の巨峰の芽の様子です。

I noticed the richness of the farmers’ diet of eating
fresh and seasonal harvest around two years ago.

It may be the reason that I started growing vegetables
like potatoes and that I would grow a kind of melon
for Japanese pickles. I eat wild vegetables naturally
grown in the vineyards and taste buckwheat sprouts
from the buckwheat yard. They are yummy.

From the neighbor farmer, I got mountain vegetable
sprout (taranome) and echalote
which may not be real echalote but is like small leak.

Tranome is for tempura and echalote ball (white part)
is marinated by mayonnaise for beer and the green part
is for tempura, too. My meals are usually very simple
but sometime I enjoy such gorgeous meal with
real good food like these.

To grow good grapes, I let weeds grow to
certain extent in my vineyards. So the grass height
is higher in my yards than others’. The organic matter
are returned to the earth. While I was mowing, many
birds gathered to eat yummys (worms)
dropped from the weeds.

ここ2，3日真夏の日差しが続いたが
今日は朝から曇りで過ごしやすい。

普段は余り行かない場所から須坂を
見渡す。右側、林の向こうに見える
でこぼこっとした山が臥竜山。
少し早い昼食に行った八町の森
の駐車場から。実際の方が
もっと良い景色。

畑には灌水のせいか人気が少ない。
大分葡萄の芽が伸びて新梢らしくなってきた。
これはシャルドネのやや長めの芽（新梢）。
種枝の先端の芽は強いのでいくつかを掻き取る。
白ワイン用のほうが出芽は早い。
赤ワイン用の葡萄はカベルネフランは大分
出てきたが、カベルネ・ソーヴィニオンや
シラーズはまだまだこれからだ。

また、やや標高の高い畑では
白ワイン用でもまだそれほどではない。

It was so hot last few days but today it was
cloudy, cooler and much better.

This is another view of Suzaka that many
people are not familiar with. The small hills
beyond trees is Garyuzan Hill. The real scenary
is much better than this picture that was taken
at buckwheat noodle restaurant Hatchonomori.

Due to the watering by springkler, there were not
so many people in the vineyards and apple orchards today.
New buds are growing and becoming shoots. The photo shows the
new shoots of Chardonnay. I removed a few big tip buds for
even growth of basal buds. White varieties seem to have
early budburst than red varieties.

Cabernet Franc is rather early one but Cabernet Sauvignon and
Shiraz are slow. White variety in higher altitude though is slow, too.

今須坂では、
街中ではハナミズキが、
畑の中ではりんごが満開です。

何年か前に植えられた
純白のハナミズキとウスベニ色の
ハナミズキが美しく街路樹として
咲き誇っています。
須坂ー山田線の新町辺りが特に
見事です。

また、畑の中の道に入ると
真っ白いふじの花が
みどりに映えます。
シードルで乾杯！

Today, flowering dagwood is in full
bloom in Suzaka.

They were planted some years ago have grown
and lender beautiul white and pink sceneary
in along the streets. On the side way of
Suzaka-Yamada line is specially beautiful under
summer like weather.

And into the farm yard roads, white flowers of
Fuji apples are in full bloom with spring green
of mountain and its own new leaves.
