オーストラリアのオクスレイカレッジOakley Collegeの、中学生16名、高校生24名、校長先生はじめ先生方、総勢44名様の皆さまが、須坂温泉古城荘におみえになりました。
“日本文化を学ぶ研修旅行”大阪→奈良→京都→東京→長野の14日間の日程で、白馬村でのスキー体験前に、須坂市へお立ち寄りいただきました。

そば打ち体験

ほとんどの学生さんは、そばを見るのも、食べるのも初めてで、時間どおりに、そば打ちができるか不安でしたが、、、
戸隠そば打ち名人の滝沢さんの、そば粉を練り、伸ばして、細く切るというデモンストレーションをみんなで見てから、各グループに分かれて、いざ初挑戦！！　
手際よく素早く伸ばして上手に切る班、伸ばしすぎて、そばの生地が破けてやり直し班に、慎重にゆっくり丁寧に仕上げた班にと、様々なお蕎麦が無事完成。
笑顔をあふれる、楽しいそば打ち体験となりました。

「初めてのそば打ちドキドキした」「そば切りが難しい！」「打ちたてのそばが美味しい」等の
感想をいただきました。
またいつか、どこかで、お蕎麦を食べる時があったら、須坂でのそば打ち体験も思い出していただけたら幸いです。

Oakley College from Australia, consisting of 16 junior high school students, 24 high school students, and a total of 44 members including the principal and teachers, visited Suzaka Onsen Kojosou. As part of their 14-day educational tour to learn about Japanese culture, traveling through Osaka, Nara, Kyoto, Tokyo, and Nagano, they stopped by Suzaka City before experiencing skiing in Hakuba Village.

Most of the students were experiencing soba noodles for the first time—both seeing and eating them. Understandably, there was some nervousness about whether they could successfully make soba noodles within the allotted time. However, after watching a demonstration by Takizawa-san, a master soba maker from Togakushi, where he expertly kneaded, rolled, and cut the soba dough, the students divided into groups and eagerly began their first attempt!
Some groups skillfully rolled and cut the dough with precision and speed, while others had to start over after rolling too thin and tearing the dough. There were also groups that took their time, working carefully and methodically to finish their noodles. In the end, a variety of soba noodles were successfully completed, and the experience was filled with smiles and laughter.

We received comments such as, "Making soba for the first time was nerve-wracking," "Cutting the soba was so hard!" and "Freshly made soba tastes amazing!" We hope that someday, if you have the chance to eat soba again, this soba-making experience in Suzaka will come to mind.
