We had drizzling rain in the
morning just enough to get wet
and cold wind in the afternoon.
I continued to remove anti cold
band and to wrap the canes around
the wire.
Winery tour 2nd day.
To the Barossa Valley.
Not so many people may visit
all the way to Henschke even though
one might visit Barossa Valley.
It is situated almost in the Eden Valley
and is the very first winery in the region
in 1800s. Its reputed Hill of Grace is second
only to Grange. Thanks to the long journey from
Adelaide, we tasted many of its wines including
Hill of Grace and Hill of Roses. These two
wines had been already decanted. Special care is
taken not to extract too much tannin during
fermentation so its wines were softer comparing
so called Barossa style. White wines made of
local grapes are outstaning, too with clear and
crisp taste thanks to high acidity. The aroma and
flavour are in good uniformity.
The entrance to the cellar door and office.
Pinot Noir is under fermentation in the
tank in the simple cellar.
Other reds are fermented still in the
concrete fermenter. After fermentation,
the wines are sent to the tanks in the basement
by gravity. Very gentl wine handling.
