葡萄の収穫で忙しい頃
知り合いから『ひまになったら読むか？』
と例の「奇跡のりんご」の木村さんの
本を2冊借りていて、最近それを読んだ。

木村さんのことを知る随分前にも
福岡さんの「藁一本の革命」や
岩田進午さんの「土のはたらき」を
読んでいたということもあって、
自分の考え方がいよいよ自然農法や
健康な土＝森林土という
方に向いて来ていると感じている。

今年葡萄に一切殺虫剤を使わなかった
（対症療法として「こうもり蛾」
の幼虫が食い入れたところには
フマキラーの様な適用薬品は使い
ましたが）のは、そういう考えが
あったからだ。ただ、生食用は見栄え
がよくなくなるので、結局随分廃棄
することになった。…農協に持って
行ったら返品になってしまって。
「市場からクレームがくる」と
荷受拒否ですからね～。

そういうこともあって、農業をやっていて
収穫物が無い時の心中を思うと私も寒いもの
を感じる。それが何年も続いたのだ。
私はまだたった1年。来年は殺虫剤復活かと
いう誘惑があるが、何とか無しでやって
みようか。木酢液と灰汁を試してみようかと
思っている。基本的に草生栽培なので、
カラスノエンドウは増やしているが、今度は
麦も大豆も葡萄畑にまいてみようか。

そうそう、木村さんの話。
ここら辺の農家でも農作業の傍ら
読んでいる人が結構いるようだ。
みんな興味津々なんです。というのも、
実は牧草を畑で育てて肥料を全く
やらなくてもりんごができている
という人もいるようだし。
防除暦の半分程度しか農薬を使わない
人はざらだ。私もかなり少ない方だ
とは思う。皆結構自分なりに
工夫して頑張っている人が多いのだ。

ただね～、
有機だ、無農薬だ、自然栽培だ、
減農薬だ、と目指す意識は高くても
実際に見栄えと値段でしか判断されない
今の流通と消費の実態が生産者の足を引っ張る
大きな原因だということの論議が
大きくならないんだよね～。

When I was busy harvesting my grapes,
one of the growers rent me two books
by Mr. Kimura who became famous for
'Miracle Apples', and I have read them
recently.

These books further engouraged me
to loot at more about natural
agriculture and ideal soil. These ideas
had begun sprouting much earlier than
I read Kimura's books because of
'Revolution of a straw' by Fukuoka
and 'Soil Story' by Iwata.

This year I did not spray pesticides at all
except for the borers making holes on
the vine trunks. I have not used herbicides
at all for years already in my vineyards
except for the boarder area of the vineyards
because it was very difficult to mow
such ara manually. The reason behind is based
on the similar ideas given in the two
books as mentioned above. However, I had to
abolish quite a few grapes because of the
bad appearance. JA refused to accept some of
my grapes for the appearance. They said to me
the market would make claim to such grapes.

Therefore I was able to share some
of Kimura's feeling when he lost the
harvest. It was only one year in my case
but he had such for years. I am tempted
to use pesticides just once next year
but I will try without it again and
will use 'wood vinegar' and the supernatant
of ash solution. I grow and mow grasses
in my vineyards but next year I may try
wheat and beans, too.

Back to Mimura's books, I found his
books at the farmars' around here.
Obviously many people are very much
interested in his methods. Here are
some people who grow pasture instead
of fertilizers for their apples. And
many poeple use much less chemicals
than those inscribed in public pest
management calender. I use much less
chemicals, too. Many people are trying
to reduce use of chemicals.

However, the problem is, even though
the growers try individually organic,
less or no chemicals, natural, with
sincere attitudes, the harvest is only
judged by the appearence and price in the
current distribution system and among
the consumers. Such reality should be
more focused and the buying behaviour
should be changed. The future
of safe food depends on the growers,
the consumers, and the people in the
distribution system.
