昨日フランス人の知り合いと
須坂の居酒屋に行った。
超ローカルな面白いお店
なのだが、行く前に餅つきを
してお腹がすいている状況
ではなかったので、そのお店を
十分楽しめなったのは残念でした。

で、そこは禁煙じゃないけど
大丈夫かなと思って聞いたら
禁煙の話になった。
今フランスでは飲食店は
禁煙なのだそうだ。
カフェは屋外にテーブルを
出しているところが多くて
冬はビニールで囲いがつけられる
こともあるが、そこでなら喫煙は
良いとのこと。驚き！
アイルランドやイギリスのパブが
禁煙となったというのは
聞いていたが、フランスまでとは。

世界中が禁煙になってもフランスは
特にパリでは絶対無理だろうなという
確信みたいなものがあったのだが。
世の中変わるものだ！

当然飲食店からは客が減るという反対が
あったが、蓋を開けてみたらタバコの
煙が嫌で外食をしなった人や家族
連れの客が増えて、そんなに影響は
なかったとも言っていた。
そういえば、飲食店を禁煙にした
おかげでビジネスが停滞したという
話はシンガポールやこれら
禁煙の国からは聞こえてこないな。

私も、地元にもっとちょくちょく
行きたとんかつ屋等があるのだが、
食べてる時のタバコの臭いが
嫌いで足が遠のいている。
きっとこういう人も
多いと思うよ。

日本も早く飲食店全面禁煙にして欲しい。

I went to a pub with French
frineds last night in
Suzaka, a very local Japanese
sytle and very interesting pub.
But because we had a lot of
rice cake in the late afternoon,
we were not able to enjoy that
pub so much. Tant pis !

On the way to the pub, I told
them that most of the restraurants
in Japan was not non smoking. I wonder
if it was OK for them or not but
actually we had no choice.
Then we talked about non smoking
in the restaurants.

To my surprise, they told me that
all the restaurants in France now
is Non Smoking. Most of the cafe
has tables outside which are enclosed
by viny sheet during winter. Smoking
is only allowed outside of the cafe.
What a surprise, I know that in Ireland
and England all the pubs are non smoking
now. But it is amazing that France has
adapted the same rule.

To me France was the last country that should
have the non smoking rule in the cafe,
especially in Paris. But what a change!
There is noting impossible in the world.

According to them, there were
protests among the restaurants owners
against non smoking for
the fear of loss of the customers.
But once it happened they found
that many non-smokers and family
customers came and the influence
seemed minimal. I have not heard
the complaint that the F&B business
went down due to non smoking policy
from these countries and others like
Singapore.

There are restaurants that I want
go more often here in Suzaka but
I cannot because I don't like
smoking while I eat. I am sure
there are many people like me.

I wish to have non smoking rule
in Japan asap.
