Wine making in Thailand

I found an newspaper article about
winemaking in Thailand. It was a English
newspaper published in Bangkok which was used
as a shock absorber in the post parcel sent from
my friend in Bangokok.

I know there are some wineries in Kao Yai north of
Bangkok and I have tried one of them which was sold
at Jusco supermarket in Bangkok. The winery was run by
CP group there.

But according to this article, the vineyards are in so-called
Golden Triangle newr Chaing Rai and they grow mainly European
wine grapes like Syrah, etc. They are looking at a new category
wine as South East Asian wine different from Old and New Continent's wines. The grow grapes by using Rain-cut like
installation with Vertical Shoot Positioning (VSP) training
system.

It is not know widely in Japan that wines are made even in India and grapes are grown in Sumatra, Indonesia. There held certain Tropical Viticulture Conferences, I think I have heard of.

Grapes are believed to be originated from very arid situation but nowadays there are people trying to grow them even in the tropical and humid climate. Therefore grapegrowing in Japan should have much adavantages.
